Yes we do tend to use the car when on site for days out, this should be a major consideration I suppose, unless we buy a small car to tow behind the Motorhome on trips away longer than a weekend. Are there many motor homes other than tag axles that are competent enough to pull a small car?

What sort of engine size should be minimum to consider to tow a small car and like the caravan car combinations, are there other weight ratio issues to consider if towing a car with the Motorhome ?

Hi Oxter, yes I have heard that too. I was on the understanding that you can use an A frame setup to tow a small car here in the UK, but on the continent you have to use a car trailer.

If I go down this route I would need to check the exact law to make sure this is correct, perhaps some other motorhomer on here knows for certain?

If this was the case, I would have to hire a small car trailer for our continental two weeks in the summer and use an A frame in the UK, this could at least be stored under the Motorhome.

I have to say that when I was a caravanner I thought very much the same, however as a new motorhomer I can see the possibilities. Although we have no plans to tow a car I would not rule it out completely. One advantage of a motorhome over a caravan is that depending on type of trip you have the flexibility of either taking a car of not depending on where you are staying and for how long and how close you are to the nearest town. Being able to tow a car on some trips is not as daft as it may seem! This is our first year with a motorhome and we are planning to stay near to towns and villages or at least near public transport and perhaps use our bikes more. But as we get older the latter might not always be an option.
