Why not just book a pitch for your tent and then your campervan is just your 'vehicle'?

I did wonder if I could do it this way round. It would be cheaper. Does anyone else? Is that a bit cheeky?

It's not as if you have a huge motorhome. The van is not much bigger than a large car/people carrier.

We've used loads of CS sites, they tend to be the most relaxed (and cheapest). We've honestly never had a problem or been questioned about our setup on any site (and we do a lot of camping!).
When we first had our Bongo we had a large tent as an awning and never paid extra or needed two pitches

Ditto. A campervan and tent will normally take up a lot less space than a car and caravan setup, or a car and humungus tent! But worth checking, some owners do charge for awnings, or an extra tent, so use campsites where they have a pitch price, regardless of your unit, or make reasonable charges for what you do have.

If you are not a member of the caravan club,JOIN as the extra you have to pay for a none member is expensive even for one night. The York site is great only 10 mins walk into centre its just the silly rules that bug me.

Or, DONT join, and pay the same money or less at a regular site. As stated - both clubs have silly rules. Which they are quite happy to bend to suit themselves. Our worst experience ever was at a big club site in the Lakes. Talk about a 'six metre' rule. The unit next to us wasnt SIX FEET!

The one 'plus' of joining one or the other, are the 'five van' sites affiliated to the them.

Probably not much help as there were only 3 of us but my old Freelander had been slightly adapted and had curtains so one of us could sleep in the car and other two in the Caranex which was also freestanding. The latter slept two adults and a little one but just try amd book a Carenex on     most sites and it's a nightmare! It's only a free-standing awning tent for one's vehicle for heaven's sake!

Hi, we have a bongo and a small tent and generally just pay for 1 pitch, or motorhome plus awning, depending on what price system is used. We used to have an estate car and a large tent and that probably took up more space than our current set-up. We've had the bongo 2 years now and the only time we were asked to pay for 2 pitches was on a certified site, though they gave us a reduced rate, so it was still pretty cheap.

Sounds good. Now I'm just wondering what size tent to get. I really fancy a bell tent and wonder if I can get away with a 3 metre one rather than a 4 metre one. How small is your tent? Does anyone sleep in your tent or do you just use it for extra living space?
