Hi Nora the dealer had the Mot done sold the camper to some one who had it for a few months then returned it faulty. then the dealer sold it again to me ,big time faulty ,as i found out when i had my own MOT done when due ,now been in garage 3 weeks for so much work to be done as was in a dangerous state ,hope to have it back on the road soon in tip top shape

Ah, right, that makes more sense.

If the vehicle isn't taxed, or if the tax is nearly at its end, you can't get an MoT history. I tried a few months back.

Nora

In the past i have been stung in a simmilar situation with a second hand car.

I saw the car and agreed a price on the condition that he put it through an MOT before i picked it up.

He did, at the neighbouring garage, and passed with no advisories.

After driving the car for a few months, it was clear that one of the wheel bearings needed doing and by the next MOT it failed due to this.

Considering this wasn't even an advisory then, makes me think that he has a friendly agreement with the garage not to add advisories or fail the MOT.

I think next time I buy a vehicle, ill ask them to MOT it at a garage of my choosing.

Sounds about right , a MOT is only good on the day its done , so all i would say is if buying second hand even if it has a new MOT on it get a new one done yourself if you think some thing is not right , vosa say they can only act upto 3 months if a suspect MOT has been done ,and that gives you time to take the vehicle back from where it came from ,

PS ,this is a touchy subject to those that has been court out , but i must stress that i am not knocking all the dealers as there are a lot of very helpful and honest dealers about , but there are also some about that are not so fussy about what they sell ,

An MOT means the vehicle is safe, it doesn't particularly vouch for how good a condition it's in. That said, my van passed it's last MOTs without advisories and I've recently discovered it never should have - having had a run of breakdowns I've taken into a garage considered the experts in old VWs and have discovered it's been hanging on by a thread. Trailer arms were ready to go at any time, and the underneath and many engine parts were simply rotten - I was shocked when the garage put it up on the ramp to show me....

If you're considering a van older than 10 years old, it's definitely worth getting a full report done on it before buying. I'd rather waste £150 on a report than find out afterwards that I'd bought a death trap.

I've had my van 4 years now and am totally peed off that my local mechanics just didn't seem to realise how much was wrong with her - it's definitely worth making sure you find someone who knows what they're doing.

I've now a choice of spending nearly £4k to get mine back in a good condition (including a recon engine) so it's been an expensive exercise. An old van may be cheaper initialy but the bills soon tot up. I'm hoping that £4k will mean it's pretty robust for the next 5-10 years but it still hurts.

Hard lesson learnt ,not to buy a campervan advertised in preloved from a Oxfordshire dealer again with out a full inspection with in a month even if it offerd with a new MOT
