...Looking at it from a different angle, does it really need to be a full on "campervan"?

How handy are you?(or do you know someone who is?).

Because at around 6K spent on a "campervan", a good chunk of that money is going on 20-30 year old chipboard cupboards, soft furnishing that have  been..*cough* .. "slept on" by heaven knows who(and heaven knows what!),aging, possibly "suspect", kit/appliances,both gas and electric(yes, they can be "checked" but they are still going to be 2-3 decades old)possibly iffy habitation window and sky-lights seals...etc ...etc..

(I'm painting a really negative picture but you get my point ).

So what about a far newer, more modern van (eg Vivaro etc) and just have a couple of windows put in(or just get a  crew-van, minbus?),have it insulated and lined out, maybe just a basic fold down bed of sorts? Okay, it may not have a Hi top (although some vans do) but it's not as if you're going to be running up and down the aisle in something of this size anyway....

As I've posted in past, the vast *majority of "VW/Bongo sized" vans that we see on festival sites are used with awnings / shelters and this is where most of the cooking and "sitting" seems to take place, so with that in mind, would it really need to be fully kitted out?...couldn't you just put together a "detachable" kitchen/cooker/chuck box?..or  just use your existing camping kit?...

 (*yes, there'll be those who have toured Morocco for many months, with 4 kids, all in their VW bus..but they are the exception rather than the norm )

We now use a VERY basic Toyota Hiace "camping van"(insulated, lined out, couple of roof vents, lift-out  kitchen/chuck box).and when used with a pop up shelter or tarp,(which houses our exiting cooking kit, a gas fridge etc) it has worked well...

It is/was only really a "trial" and it's far from ideal but it is a work in progress....
