Try Adrian Flux. We have insurance through them as well as breakdown but its a pretty good package and having used the breakdown once in the last year can confirm that it worked well!!

I think I will try nationwide as we have our home i surance with them and they were very good with a recent claim.

Check small print for age limit on vehicle for both UK & particularly European cover before paying your money. Some will not cover vehicles more than 13-15yrs old.

ADAC cover any age of driver and any age of vehicle

I have Cover with ADAC, for myself and the wife. I have 3 vehicles, Volvo, Campervan and Cobra, Covers me for the whole of the EU AND the UK. Yearly cost is around £93 which is the same amount that RAC wanted for 2 weeks in France !!
