In our Type 2 bay window VW we have a porta-pottie.
rabbitboy made a 4 sided wooden box-type cover for it (2 sides, top & front).
As someone else mentioned, with a cushion on top of it you can't tell and it's a handy extra seat.
It is just for emergencies, but I wouldn't be without it
Hi, there is a conversion firm near Truro who do a great job of shoe-horning a cassette toilet into a T5 but eye watering price
We have Vivaro with pop-top for same reasons you state - I have modified a cupboard door to open with hinge at base so that the door pivots down to make base for the porta-potti to slide on - no need for lifting just pull out and push away - also fitted a SoG so no chance of smells when slider is open - works well for us - mostly used for 'lighter' duties but well ok for all needs
Good luck
John
Without toilet facilities – mainly campsites (if you can find them open out of season) and some camps charge eye watering prices.
With toilet facilities - the World is literally you oyster – in France and many other countries you can use designated Motorhome stopping places overnight at minimal, and even free, prices all year round - Wild camping is also an option at home and abroad.
We've just got a VW T5 SWB. It has to be converted into a camper but it WILL have a porta potti under a seat. It's the one thing I insist on so I won't have to wander to the loo's in the middle of the night!
We got a short wheel base as it'll be our everyday vehicle so it's easier to fit into car park bay's and not much longer than our Kia Sorento which we'll sell once the T5's converted.
It'll open up a lot more sites to us and make it easier when we hopefully go to Skye and Mull in the summer. And all of sites we use and intend to use will have a wash block and toilets. Although I plan to be brave for a night and stay at a site overlooking a loch for a night with no facilities (although I think there may still be a toilet which is a short walk away). We'll just have to adjust to the reduction in space as we also have a Bailey Pegasus which is HUGE in comparison!

We have a VW T4 and have a portaloo for night time use. It's used for wees only, no poos! It's a Godsend because after a few beers we both normally get up in the night and having to get dressed, walk across to the toilet block and back again then getting undressed would make me cold and wide awake! It gets in the way a bit in the daytime as we don't always use an awning, but we wouldn't be without it!
We've just bought a leisuredrive vivante SWB. Our wish list was very similar. Ours is a high top so not ideal for you but you can get the same layout as an elevating roof. Check out denby Buckingham conversion and the danbury royale too. Hillside, bodans and Devon all also do something similar.
All have a cassette toilet in the back corner opposite the kitchen, so no bathroom but everything you need and a privacy screen before the lounge/bed area at the front.
we have a t4 with a portipotti under seat.....its a godsend for me when travelling as sometimes find it hard to find a loo......its only used for wees tho........i wouldnt be without mine.....otherhalf happy to nip out at night but when ur all cosy in ur bed its so easy to pull ou than getting dressed to trek to toilet block........plus if u stop over where there is no facilities its handy.....good luck with your search and enjoy the freedom
Can you make your garage bigger? I put a new taller roof on ours and our van is a 2.7m high Peugeot boxer narrow coach built. It also fits in supermarket car parks width wise but needs 1.5 bays in length. VWs are too small and overpriced (in my opinion)
I have a Romahome R30 with a very nice loo / shower built in a moulded GRP shell, so completely waterproof. Overall the van is only 5 mtrs. long so it fits neatly into most car parking spaces.
It also has the benefit of 4 proper belted seats so will act as a big car. Pretty economical too at 35+ mpg.
Only problem is that they are very rare and seemingly much sought after. I've only caught a glimpse of another one.
