If your plan as only to stay on site with toilet and showers wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a caravan and save on insurance and road tax..?

No, as I do not fancy towing a caravan.

to say you will never stay on a secluded wild camping spot will mean you miss out on some fantastic views in the morning when you wake

We get fantastic views from sites without parking overnight on public land. Lost count of how many beaches I’ve stepped out onto from a site. How many mountains I’ve opened the curtains to see, with no other vehicles in the view. But OP has already said he doesn’t want to camp off grid, so we don’t need to debate the relative merits.
I’d agree that a strip wash works fine - less handy for long hair washing, though guys tend to keep their hair shorter.
I’d just say a toilet is essential. Even if it’s just a portapotty is a cupboard or it’s disguised as a seat. You only need to be caught short once to really regret not having it. Especially if it’s in the middle of the night & pouring rain.
We don’t have a heated floor but the blown air goes into the washroom & makes it toasty. A pull out / retractable drying line like they have over hotel baths is useful for drying towels etc.

We always use our own facilities. Both motorhomes we have owned have had proper showers not a wet room. I suspect if we were ever going to buy a motorhome with a wet room we would start to use site facilities.

I have sort of a semi wet room at home, designed by me, in that the shower is a walk-in one with one side without any enclosure.

The space for the shower is 900mm x 1000mm, and is very spacious compared with many shower cubicles that I have used in hotels and B&Bs in the past.

The shower/toilet room will be narrower, only 700mm, however, it will be longer than first planned as the van is longer by about a metre.

At the longer length of 1400mm instead of 900mm, in theory I can have proper shower cubicle. However, it will feel cramp to me at 700mm square.

Hence I prefer to have a wet room instead - it is what I am used to and preferred.

Toilets get regularly used particularly for middle of the night visits. The shower gets much less use for the purpose of showering unless we stop on no facility sites. But the shower room is an essential space for really wet waterproofs, wet dog towels and other wet washing which is placed on a clothes horse and stood in the shower. Generally, with blown air heating they are well on the way to being dry in the morning. It also becomes a useful storage area for all sorts. Just make sure you don't travel with anything heavy.

I rarely use my shower. it's not any good anyway. I just use it to fill up the washing machine when I need to use it. I use the loo every day and empty it in a local public toilet when I need to. No one seems to mind. When I amon sites I, like others only use my facilities when it's night time. I cook outside and wash up and shower/toilet at the site

We prefer CLs/CSs which often have no loos or showers, so use ours all the time' We have a big twin axle caravan with these at the end, but would like a van with them in the middle and an end bedroom.

Just realised that this is in the motorhomes/campervans section. Caravans have loos and showers too.

Agreed! I once purchased a caravan and a car just to tow it - Literally a week after buying it I had a crash and wrote them both off. Anti snake hitch decided it was broken that day.

Never again!

Just read this (don't have MH because I need something small - under 6m - with off road capability as it would be my only vehicle and not enough dosh) and hope, given you spend a lot of time in Scotland, you check that the public loo you're using to dispose of waste isn't connected to a septic tank - we've had two public toilets taken out by people dumping their waste and wrecking the entire system.
