Yes, BUT there appears to be two levels of LEZ. The one covering the whole of Edinburgh which affects BUSSES and COMMERCIAL vehicles, but it would appear that CARS are only affected by the smaller City centre LEZ.

The C&MC site may be within the larger LEZ, but outwith the City centre one. It then comes down to whether Motorhomes etc.. are classed as cars or not.

The point about the Euro5, 6 etc.. is valid, but I would suggest is only a real problem if you want to travel into or live in cities. Personally, I prefer to stop outwith cities and travel in by public transport.

Folks, this discussion about the Edinburgh LEZ isn't helping the OP decide about their next vehicle. (I'd always use the bus from the P&R to get into any city anyway. Park a MH in a city centre? - no thanks.)

Fiona, yes perhaps the topic has been sidelined by the Edinburgh LEZ, but the issue is quite relevant.   If you want to drive into city areas in the UK or abroad, it will most likely require a van which is Euro 6 (or better) to avoid hefty congestion charges. If this is the case then the newest available van (within budget) would seem a good choice.

If on the other hand, you are only driving in rural areas, the emissions is less important and I'd go for the vehicle that best suited my needs.

With apologies to Fiona.

The LEZ charge for Bath is £9 a day for vans under 3500kg and the same for PHGV (private campervans and motorhomes over 3500kg that have been registered with the LEZ scheme as such). I would hardly say that this is 'hefty' unless you are planning to drive through it regularly.

We, like many people, don't go into city centres in the van for obvious reasons like parking so unless you actually live within the LEZ boundaries I don't think it's going to make a huge difference to most people when thinking about buying a van all things considered and especially of you are on a budget for buying a van.

My advice to Livelovelaugh is to get whatever suits you best and don't worry too much about the investment aspect. Both coachbuilt and A class have their fans and pros and cons. It's not like buying a car, more like buying a house as you will spend many hours in there hopefully. Motorhomes hold their value well unless there are serious problems with build and maintenance so whatever you get make sure you have it thoroughly inspected.

An A class isn't necessarily of better build quality to a coachbuilt or vice-versa, it all depends upon the quality of the conversion.

If you take the view that an A-class is better quality than a coachbuilt you could end up with an indifferent A-class over a much better built coachbuilt.

Personally, if the layout of both suited me and the conversions are of similar quality, I would go with the newer option simply because (in theory), there should be less material deterioration of the conversion and spares availability should be better.

It won�t just be city centres though , as LEZs increase geographically they will encompass even ring roads on the outskirts of large towns as they have in Bath .
If you spend your budget on 2017 or newer coach built then you have the best chance of complying with legislation

its all about layout, then layout and after that consider the layout ....


A class, C class, Coachbuilt, low profile - are pretty much irrelevant if the layout doesnt work for you, so consider how you would use it, including sleeping arrangements, for us having a fixed bed was an absolute priority and we worked back from that ...
