I think you'll always have a problem with the roof sagging and pooling with water. The tent roof slopes down then the tunnel roof slopes up to the awning rail. That creates a valley which water will always collect in.
Caravan awnings slope gently from the caravan and rain generally runs off OK. However, once it collects the smallest amount the weight weighs the roof down allowing more to pool. Then in no time there is a huge swimming pool with the roof several feet lower in the middle of the awning.
Just a small amount of looseness in the awning allows a pool to form.
