If I go into towns these days I normally go by train or bus. It makes perfect sense for me as being a retired train driver I get free train travel, and being an old fogey I have a free bus pass. No parking worries at all that way and someone else does the driving.

I use to own a Japanese import campervan based on a Toyota Hiace supercustom and Toyota would supply all parts if you gave them the chassis number, this may still be the case, probably best to ask on the owners group page on facebook

I also have a Japanese import, a Toyota Alphard which I haven't seen mentioned yet. It's a petrol 2.4 4WD with a side conversion. We originally were looking for a Bongo but the Alphard is way better for us as we have a dog. Once the bed was made in the Bongo there was no floor space!

We had a 96 bongo, fab van, and although ours was not a camper conversion it stil had the elevating roof with the option of putting beds up top.
We had the 2.5 Diesel auto rwd. was about 25mpg at best.I found a local garage to do the servicing, the ford ranger 2.5 uses the same engine so many parts are compatible.
We had a lot of expense with front suspension parts, which is common as i have since found out.
There is a really helpful community called "Bongo Fury" which was an amazing area for advice.
I would love another one but at the moment the running cost would make it a very expensive option! Although when i retire in about 5 years i would definately consider another one.

Sounds just like the one we had except we didn't have any problems with the front suspension. Great vehicles, and Bongo Fury was very useful too. I had it 5 years and I would probably have had it for longer, but I had it stolen from outside my house. No trace of it ever turned up, and I'm convinced it went abroad. The fuel consumption was a vast improvement after the Toyota Spacecruiser it replaced. That did 18mpg on a good day!
