Never thought of that. But we are getting to that good age where life begins as its the new 40. But we are getting from dealer we have made our minds up on that. But Thankyou for the advice.

Another factor you need to consider is where are you going to keep it? On the drive? On the street? In a storage compound?

These factors may affect the size of motorhome you might want to buy.

We live in North Ayrshire, and we have already sorted the Storage under cover with full 24 hrs security onsite. Plus they park your MotorHome and give you the keys back with a Bay Number, for when you ring them up to use again. They greet you take the keys and bring your Motorhome to you after wash down. A bit pricey but we are happy to pay that bit extra for peace of mind.

Make sure that your insurance are aware that a third party will be driving the vehicle as there may be repercussions if you need to make a claim. I must admit I would not be very happy with that sort of arrangement as too many things could go wrong and then where would you place the blame?

We’re in Ayrshire too. Where’s your MH storage?
Your nearest MH dealer is BC Motorhomes in Prestwick. We got our Autosleeper there but from the “original” BC (before the management buyout when Border Cars folded). Good thing too, as we were back & forth with snagging - trekking over to Perthshire would have been tedious.
Their parking lot is almost empty at the moment though. Like cars, shortage of new vehicles after a staycation rush on buying.
Oh. One thing no one has suggested is hiring first.
And have a look at CalMac fares which go up with MH length, you may choose to limit the length of vehicle you go for. And think about where you hope to go eg bendy single track roads with soft verges plus long MHs aren’t a happy combination. But if you’re planning to go to the continent, length isn’t a problem.

Trevor, as you live in N.Ayrshire, you have a few places to look at vans.
You'll have noticed that Scotland is not exactly full of dealers, but places to look might be BC motorhomes in Ayr, Scotvans (where I bought my van) in Perth and Perthshire caravans. You may have to travel quite a distance to find what you want.

Do you not have parking facilities at home?   I'm a great believer that if you have a camper / motorhome, you should be using it year round and the good bit is that you can go on the spur of the moment. I use my van for our fortnightly shopping trips and for days out. Mrs. L has a car that we use for local journeys,
