The problem we are having is that if you tow a caravan to get the breakdown cover you have to be a member of one of them to get cover!

We have breakdown cover with Green Flag which includes recovering the caravan if we have a problem while towing. Some companies do state a maximum length for the van though.

You may be with Green Flag but that's only their basic cover the same as the AA breakdown policy with a caravan in tow. It's not their 'Mayday' cover as you have to be a member of the CMC to qualify very much the same as you have to be a member of the C&CC to qualify for the RAC 'Arrival' breakdown cover.

People have mentioned consistency and standard of the sites, the CL network and other services, only one poster has mentioned the regional meetings.

The CAMC is split into a number of geographical regions normally based around counties and are referred to as centres. These regional centres organise rallies on a regular basis throughout the year, these are generally great value and also, invariably have a social event attached. We really enjoy these rallies and attend a good number of them throughout the year. You can only participate in the rally if you are a CAMC member but you don't have to be a member of a particular centre to attend their rallies, so you may live in Yorkshire for instance but the Norfolk centre is running a rally in an area you'd like to visit, you're perfectly entitled to book onto that rally.

I have been a member of C&CC since 2008/9 and joined CAMC in late 2020 when I wanted to book one of their club sites in 2021 (I took delivery of my PVC in March 2021).

I prefer the ease of CAMC's booking system as I find it easier to make amendments online. In addition, it is much easier to use compared with C&CC's website and booking system which does not allow changes online.

I decided to keep my membership with C&CC as I like to stay at one of the club sites over Easter, and it gives me access to their member-only Certified Sites.

Time would tell if I would keep my membership with C&CC, however, I would definitely keep my membership with CAMC for the website and booking systems alone.

We have been members for years and mainly use it for the rallies these days, rarely more than £8 a night and in some great locations. You need to be a member which has a cost and then join a “local centre” which is free and gives you access to hundreds of rallies all over the UK. Camping and Caravan Club are similar with their”District Associations” and temporary sites. Of you have a motorhome it may well be worth looking at The Motorcarvanners Club, again they have local groups who organise rallies all over the UK. It’s not for everyone but can work out a very cheap way to get around. You need to be comfortable being off grid though and pitching in a field.
Example we get four nights in the middle of Durham City (at the rugby club) for around £35. That’s only slightly more than one night at the club site on the outskirts of the city where we would have to either drive into the city centre or get a bus. From the rugby club we can walk it in 10 minutes.
