 sorry, I didn't notice your reply - I was thinking of the first VW that I ever drove that had a decent heater - and that was because it had the water cooled engine - Doh!

One thing I would recommend is to make sure you really have what it takes to convert a van. I have seen vans converted by amateurs that are the equal (or better) than professionally made vans, but a bad 'un is A BAD 'UN!!!

You have also been given duff info above about costs at country borders.  If you go to Austria or Switzerland you will need to make sure you meet their vignette requirements, ie for Austria you have to buy a sticker for the windscreen in order to use the roads, likewise Switzerland although I have a feeling that theirs is for motorway usage.  Please check it out before you travel so that you don't fall foul of a big fine for failing to display the sticker.
