We used Europe Assistance when we did a recent  4 week trip through Europe and they were bloody fantastic. Broke down on teh way back up to the ferry and they towed us, put us up for a night in a nice hotel, sent a canb to collect us next day and then towed us into the ferry and had us met on the otherside and towed back to London.

They were super efficient all the way.

Anyone wanna buy a campervan?

If you are over 50 you can try Saga

Ours covers insurance and breakdown.  Although I do have to admit we had a bit of a problem with them trying to get a window replaced on the insurance.  They tried claiming it was not covered as their definition (which they don't actually give) of a window is made of glass not as we have at the rear of the van double glazed perspex.  Luckily my O/H does not take 'no' kindly and persisted until they agreed to get it replaced.

Best advise Join a club,  The RAC will cover you,no restictions for length weight or height. and get a discount for being in a club, i am in Caravan Club.

IF your van is over 18ft i know the AA will not rescue you.  Been down that road.

Do they ever!!!  The small print is for us to find not them to point out.  The fact that you need a degree in legal waffle to understand the first party of the third part is irrelevant.  If you have any doubt about Saga covering your weight I'd make sure you get it in writing that they do.

If you join the camping & caravan club, then the R A C through them, you get discount on the memb. fees, & their is no weight limit on your van like most have in the small print.  I found out by being in the AA & breaking down......long story..... knickers in a twist brain out the window.

Hi all Please be aware that with a MH "replacement vehicle" is considered to be ,at best an ordinary panel van as conversion is considered to be a retro fit or as we found , a large saloon car. also because we opted for a car we were not paid four nights hotel bills while awaiting repairs to our brand new PEUGOT based van. This was RAC top level of cover.   BE WARNED!

We were with Europ assist like randy but your car/camper has to be less than 10 yrs old and we broke down in our car in St Ives and they towed us back to Doncaster and were great, also we broke down in Scotland and they again towed us back home. One of the guys that towed us told us u have to be careful because some break down people charge you after a certain amount of mileage. Some breakdown companies will not insure your vehicle if its left hand drive. Weve got breakdown with Churchill (i chose these because after a amount of time searchning they were the cheapest and when i put the no plate in it came up with the make and model of MH not everyone did this so be careful). Check the SMALL PRINT as this is important - i made sure i did after Europ assists help they were great and the people who tow u back are great too we were left stranded for about 30 mins max on both occasions would def go with them again if our VW was younger we have our car breakdown cover with them and wouldnt worry about calling them out.

Good luck but dont forget - the small print is there for a reason!

My insurance is with Adrian Flux and includes breakdown cover and recovery for the van - very reasonable.
