Hi,

The towbars for alko chassis are brand new - we supplied about half a dozen in the last few days and all have been fitted without any problems at all.

Now the initial orders have gone so well we'll get the website sorted. Photos and videos will appear on the website in the next week or so.

Most sizes are £349, although this would depend on the nature of your chassis/bodywork. We'll get single electrics sorted for you too. Delivery should be within 10 days and it really is a very simple fit.

Motorhome towbars will change enormously next year. Whole vehicle type-approval is coming in in July 2007 - towbars for vehicles produced after that date will have to be fully tested and certified by the government under EC94/20 legislation. In short, suppliers won't be able to just fabricate a towbar for you (as also happened with cars before 1998). This is a shame, as many fabricators are excellent.

Please don't hesitate to ring me if you want any technical/legal advice, whether you choose to go for one of our bars or not.

All the best,

John T.

(dashing between offices but our staff on 0870 60 900 70 should be able to track me down!).

John

Thanks for the info but the price isnt as  competative with a main manufacturer such as Towtal at Fenton near Stoke but the difference is they fit it with electric`s.

http://www.towtal.co.uk/motorhome-towbars.asp

Hope this give food for thought.

Pete

Hi Pete,

I'm very familiar with the Towtal site! I've recommended literally dozens of customers to them over the last couple of years, when their vehicle wasn't suitable for our towbars or because they weren't comfortable with a home fitting. Most importantly, I've been really impressed with the professionalism of the staff there - particularly Bill ('Junior' - I think) who I've chatted to a couple of times and is really on the ball with all the issues I've already mentioned in the thread. In particular, they have gone to great time and effort to get their a-frames braked to necessary standards, details of which he will be happy to talk to you about.

Unfortunately, not everybody lives near Stoke or has the freetime to travel there and leave their van etc. We have been working closely with owners, dealerships and manufacturers to produce a bar that can be literally sent anywhere and fitted at home or by a local dealer or mechanic.  These are for the Alko chassis - for other chassis we can provide towbars to experienced fitters but will mostly continue to direct customers towards Towtal and a couple of other fabricators, who have excellent reputations and we are happy to recommend.

All the best,

JT

Yes i can see your point about location,Im very fortunate to live on the outskirts of the industrial Midlands, for once it is a bonus.

I appreciate your replies concerning this question, I have purchased a considerable amount of goods from Towsure and have been pleased with the products and delivery.I would recommend the company.

I do hope you continue to supply Towbars in relation to Motorhomes.

Cheers

Pete

0870 is one of my pets hates. I have prematurely grown into a grumpy old man.

BTW John, on another thread I read that the stores may not have all items in the catalogue - understandable given the range of items you have to offer. I am hoping to call into your Birmingham store on my way from Holyhead to Poole then onto France.

Can I email yourselves with my "must have" items to see if they are in store, or even order the items to pick up at the store.

Hi Jim,

That's absolutely fine - please e-mail me on jtanner at towsure.co.uk and I'll get Halesowen to reserve your things for you.

Having said that, I'll be disappearing at 4pm for the weekend. If I don't get back to you personally please phone Halesowen on 0121 422 7222 and ask them to reserve your things and to ring you back if anything is out of stock. Ask to speak to Tina if she's around (Tina staffs their customer services desk) and mention that I put you in touch.

JT

Thanks JT,

No rush on it - I'm not going to France until July!!!

Good news for you is it give me more time to think of all the things I (want) need.

Alan

Ive taken the Motor Home to Denvic and he has measured up said it will be fitted on a Saturday morning. You were right he knows his stuff.

Havent had a definite price as he has to check on steel prices but he said between £150 to £175.

He is doing it as i wanted so that i still have the storage at the rear, all that remains is for me to do the electric`s thats a doddle.

He was out at the time i got there,  i scrounged some water off a guy washing his car and made myself a cup of tea lol. now thats camping.

Thanks again

Pete

Just returned back from the making and fitting of the tow bar it would pull a tree down. steady legs fitted to bar too.He asks you what you want and makes it to suit.

The workmanship is very good. still have access to storage at rear.It took him just over 3 hours to make, paint and fit.

Cost me just under £150 not bad at all

All i need now is some deceent dry weather to wire it up and some long bolts for the hitch.

It was worth the saving of over £200. He has orders for more.

Thanks again Alan for the contact.

Pete
