Hi Pete, the licence issue has been debated endlessly on various forums, and the only "Facts" to emerge are that no driver has ever been prosecuted or insurance company refused to pay out, for driving with what the DVLA would class as the wrong licence. ie. a "C" or "C+E" for a vehicle over 7.5 tonnes.
In the only case that got to court, the DVLA withdrew on the day of the court case, which only proves that they are unsure of the law themselves.
I have an LPG conversion and you will not get the same mileage from LPG as petrol, it contains about a third less energy, if you can buy LPG for less than 35p per litre, then with petrol at about 95p you will approach halving your fuel cost's. I usually assume (for me) a petrol equivalent of 15mpg on LPG as opposed to 10mpg on petrol.
Totally agree that you should talk to the owners, and that most of the dealers will tell you anything to get the sale.
