Have you been in a Bongo? They are tiny compared with our VW T25 hi-top. We've got an autohomes conversion and there is loads of storage and comfort. Pull out bed is really comfy, no need for an airbed, and a spare bed in the hi-top that pulls out to a full size double.
Our van runs no problem and we can get 70mph + on the motorway (when the wind is the right direction ha ha). The waving is great fun too. And they hold their value. Like any vehicle they are not maintenance free. You just need to keep on top of things with any older vehicle.
Take a look in my gallery, you do get a lot of van for your money.
I have owned a VW Type 2 and although I loved the quirkyness of it it does come at a price - the constant battle to keep it running and keep the bodywork intact. I think they are overpriced for what they are. Out of the two I think that the Toyota is better value for money.
good heavens no Chris - as if I would do that ;-))
just excellent value for money - as a base at least - we couldn't find a conversion / combination we liked in the toyota [mazda weren't around then].
The trouble with buying VWs is that their cult status encourages silly prices, my niece's oh bought one - type 2 westie - stupid price, 2 berth [they have 2 kids] 2 seat belts - and he refuses to alter it in any way shape or form to turn it into a usable vehicle for them.
bought the VW T4 'cos - it was a neat size and shape and great to drive - especially after the Fiat Ducato, and we use it as a popular 2nd vehicle.
and we liked the conversion, otherwise description covers toyota and - presumably Mazda

But itīs all right now, I learned my lesson well.
