Aw - I think its really fun to call your motorhomes and campervans names and some of the posts I have read have really made me smile and it has made me realise that perhaps we are not quite as barmy as we first thought and thank goodness there are others equally as daft out there lol!  No - I think in a world where sometimes we have to be deadly sensible and serious it is good to act a bit silly at times and if naming your camper makes you happy then why not?

I think the people who feel so strongly about their vehicles are probably kind, gentle, sweet natured and sensitive people with a very loving and appreciative streak and maybe this naming game displays a lot more about a person's character than we realise.

By the way, my lovely brother Garry who we lost 18 months ago at aged only 48 bought a new tourer only 6 months before he suddenly passed away and like us with our motorhome, he bought his new tourer with some of his inheritance left to him by our wonderful mum. Anyway, just like us, he wanted to honour our mum's memory in some way and so he called his tourer "Nannavan" because mum was known as Nannan to all of her grandchildren and as I had called our motorhome "Winnie" after our mum "Nannavan" seemed a brilliant alternative. My brother even had a brass plaque made with the name "Nannavan" inscribed upon it which took pride of position in their new and much loved caravan.

Sadly my sister in law has had to sell "Nannavan" as it was just sitting in storage and losing value and she would never have the confidence to either tow it or use it herself - but she has kept the "Nannavan" plaque which holds many happy memories for her and her children.

So naming a vehicle can often represent so much more than just a mere name and I have really enjoyed reading all of the posts in this thread and I think it has been a partticularly lovely thread to participate in.

So please keep the names coming, along with the stories that go with it

Sooh

Hi Sooh

What a lovely name for your brother's tourer and he must have been so proud of it. I agree that the names do indicate a degree of care and affection as clearly demonstrated by your brother and his thoughtfulness towards your Mum.

I am sure Nannavan will be just as well cared for now and if we see you around in Winnie we will pop over and say a hello.

Thank you Romaway and yes my brother was very proud of his "Nannavan" and it breaks my heart to think he only got to enjoy her for such a short time but I know in the short time he and his family had "Nannavan" they really had some fun in her.

Actually, when my brother's wife sold "Nannavan" recently she made sure it went to a lovely retired couple who were delighted with her and that made parting with her so much easier for my sister in law and like you say, I am sure they will look after her very well.

Yes if ever our paths ever cross during our travels it would be lovely to meet you and have a chat.

Sooh

Ours is called THE RAP, just because it's a Rapido.

The others were all called Bessie as they were Bessacars.

Pretty obvious & uninventive really.

Hi Sooh,

A very touching post to read.  We have not given our van a name, have not had time to use her much yet  (why are vans mostly referred to as "she"?  - poss seperate post) but I think we must do now . Just got to think of something meaningful as our purchase was mainly because my mother who died when she was 72yrs old left me some money.  She loved to travel abroad and her name was Gina and she was a grandmother.  I love your  "Nannavan" but that is already taken.  Thinking cap firmly on.

Carol
