I'm a big fan of the Oztents from what I've seen. They are pricey but they do have a fair bit more room than the Caranex. I will definitely be after something quick to put up and fairly spacious (room for travel cot etc).

Absolutely no probs, you've got to sort the vehicle first and work out what tent space you need afterwards.  Hence reason I got the Caranex takes five minutes to put up once you've studied the instructions, but helps if there's two of you!!  The free-standing bit is easier.  We had three adults in the sleeping end with more than width of rear door spare to move about in.

gjf72 - can't help you with photos - amongst stuff that went missing a while back. If you imagine car left, tent right, we slept with heads at lower bit and feet near door.  The draft screen fits around your vehicle using a part elasticated attachment - sounds weird but it actually was quite sound, except in one west coast gale on an exposed (very) site when the wind went round !.  Same goes for the velcro for the roof bit - if you're going to be seriously in the wild weather, I'd fit extra wide velcro additionally.  (This after discussion with Caranex who aren't a million miles down the coast from me.) 

Meant to say that it depends what you're intending doing.  If a full two weeks camp not moving; then I'd say not.  If you're wanting weekends or touring holiday with 2/3 days in same place before moving on - then it works. 

Another thing - the CCC recognises Caranex as tents - remember one private campsite insisted it was a folding camper - until I left it for the day with the free standing kit!!

Glorious weather up here and warm.  Cannot believe at 3am this morning I was marshalling without waterproof trousers, jacket and gloves and my fleece open!  The stars were like you could touch them!  Hope it's like this next weekend in the Trossachs - although dossing in the car might be a tad cool - finish one stage at 8pm and have to be 70 miles down the road and 19 into stage by 3am and with all these deer about.......!

...on the subject of curtains,while you're at it,it would be worth looking at knocking up some simple homemade "silver screens" as well..

Even just using several "poundshop" windscreen sunblinds,just sown/gaffa tapped together would be better than nothing...

(..although I believe people use the foil-faced rockwool insulation type stuff for a better job..)
