Hi
New guy here , thinking of doing a 7.5 box truck to camper , total budget of around £6k , intend fitting wood burner , shower room /toilet , may fit mains elec and LPG , will have to get a couple of mates to help with that , otherwise I`ll do the rest myself .
Your advice is welcome , main things I could do with help are as follows :

What truck is best ?

What body length is best ?

Best thing to do with tail lifts ? ie bin them and panel it in ?

Most cost effective window?

Best way for side doors?

Whats the deal with getting the truck registered as a camper?

Cheers

Forgot all about this thread, even though I started it!!

One thing I have discovered since is, some site may NOT allow you onto their site, as your vehicle maybe 'TOO HEAVY' for their site / service roads....

Found this out the hard way when we broke down on the way to a site last year....

I could repair the breakage once on site, (fan / alternator belts), so I just asked the wrecker driver to take us to the site. (We only broke down 7 mile from the site).

Once there though, he wasn't allowed to take me any further on as his truck - and it too was only a 7.5 ton truck...

He dropped us at the gates, we hooked up the van again, and made a mad dash onto a pitch before the car decided to heat up again. Luckily this wasn't too far from the gates...

-------------
Damned if I do...

Damned if I don't!!!!

From what I've seen low mileage good condition ones fetch a lot more money than a 7.5 tonner.

Hi, im a new member on here. im currently toying with the idea of converting one of many demountable lorry bodies i have. I still use the truck for my haulage business. The box is 25foot long and 10foot high and can stand on legs. Then at the weekend i can hook into the body (fitted as camper) and go enjoy ourselves. Anyone else done similar? or offer advise? Thanks in advance.

They have made a tidy looking job of that.
(although I don't think sitting a woodburner onto 5 bar ali' tread plate, which in turn looks to be sat over OSB, is the best of ideas!?).
..as nice as it it, I can imagine that using something of that size in the UK could/would be a b*ll ache, until you'd sussed out a network of sites/"locations" where you could stop without pishing off the locals.

Imagine ringing up the Caravan Club to book a pitch..."..err no..I won't be requiring an awning pitch as such..."

Welcome to UKCS.
This discussion is a long one that started back in 2015, you might find your answer if you read it all. It isn't clear who you are asking if they do conversions.

-------------
2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Hi

Were in the Highlands and are in the process of transferring donar caravan to a 7.5t prison van. How did you fit your caravan windows to the box? Our walls are quite thick.
thanks
Maria
