Cheers to all you well wishers. We can't wait to give it a go.
We've decided to just nip off to Brid or Cleethorpes for first outing to just get the feel of Motorhome. If there are any hiccups it would be better having them 1 hour from home.

Hi All, new to this site, however for our part we had been caravanning since 1975 and gave up in 2003 as we moved into a Smallholding in Wales, so no holidays since then!!
Then in early 2016 our health started to take its toll so all our animas had to go. We had Horses, Sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, ferrets, dogs & cats and thoroughly enjoyed our time as 'hobby farmers' but they all went save for the dogs.
Shortly after this we decided we would go back to caravanning but again our health was a barrier. I couldn't put the awning up and we needed the extra space as we had 3 large dogs - Dobermans! So the move to a Moho was a no brainer but, hedging our bets, we bought a 20yr old motorhome big enough for us two and the three dogs. The Moho came with a 'toad' but we soon realised that going out for the day in a Toyota Aygo with three dobies was a nightmare. Add to that our need, both of us, from time to time to need a wheelchair or mobility scooter, especially at shows etc. Our solution was to have a second vehicle! Not the ideal solution for some but it has worked exceptionally well for us. My wife loves driving so we bought a Toyota Grand HiAce, a Japanese import 7 seater, took two of the seats out and converted it into a day camper. Plenty of room for the dogs, the wheelchair & mobility scooter making a 'day out' a doddle. Yes, its 2 vehicles to tax, insure etc., but for us it works very well. The toad is gone and with a couple of hands free walkie talkies we can at least speak to each other.
We toured the Highlands 500 in February with both vehicles ad it was a breeze. We could take our time, park up for a few days and use the HiAce for trips out visiting and exercising the dogs. We have a camp kitchen in the HiAce so even on our days out we save money by making our own tea and coffee and lunch etc instead of eating out, which, as my wife is Ceoliac is a bit of a nightmare anyway.
It's been a fabulous 18 months so far and our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner. Good luck to you all.

We had a caravan for many years and had many happy trips with it however once the kids no longer went with parents on holiday we left the car and caravan at home used motorcycles for transport with a mix of camping and hotels
Now we have a van conversion camper that suits us and we tend to be in a different location each evening as we dont spread out too much when on a site to get moving unplug the ehu when connected start engine drive away camper has a fixed bed across the rear
We have done a wee bit of wild camping but do prefer to use proper sites

Brian

We also use our SUV for our long road trip and have a lot of fun with it. We have purchased this Toyota RAV4 2006 for sale last year from a Japanese trading car platform (https://carfromjapan.com/cheap-used-toyota-rav4-for-sale-year2006) and it's really great. We all know that camping is fantastic and it would be really wonderful if we have appropriate vehicle for it.
