I have joined caravan and camping club Judy but not CC. Did think of joining them too as some people have said they are members of several clubs.  What do u think?  Is that a good idea or not? Any sugestions of good sites in Wales would be helpful Judy - so any tips just keep em rolling!

sue, if you are heading for the south west the devizes site is great, especialy in the winter time. by that i mean there is a bus stop outside the site to get to bath, where there is another bus station that you can go on to bristol plus many more places. from the site buses go to sailsbury,( beatiful cathederal) stonehenge and more. there is a nice pub outside the site for a drink and good reasonable priced meals. the caen locks on the kennet and avon river pass by the site, (18 locks). walk up beside the canal  to devizes town centre.the site is immaculate and quiet. (quite welcome after the last couple of days on this site) . 5 days is just right for this area. you may get a bit fed up with moving on too much to a new site to get to all the areas you have mentioned. i used to move on to other sites quite often but now i try not to. i like the winter months here because of the accesibility we need with no cars to take us around. do you have bikes? good here for them too   .tom

I'm a member of the CC and the C&CC.  I tend to use the CC more. Nothing against C&CC sites, just that the CC have more so I bump into them more often. The cost of membership is well worth it.  If you survived York you'll find CL/CS sites a doddle.

I'll tell you where the site is near St Davids if you email me  It's right on the cliff top opposite Ramsey Island. Great views!!!!  Hardly anyone else goes there, so SHHHHHH!

Hey thanks Tom and Judy.  Do any of you ever use msn messenger?  My username on there is strangely enough Sonesta.  If you go on there we can have a proper chat about where to stay etc.

Thanks again.

I use AOL for business occasionally, when it doesn't interfere with touring around in the motorhome that is.

Send me an email  and I'll return a list of my favourite sites with details etc. I'm into pretty much the same as you, scenery, the odd castle or historic site thrown in.  Oh and I promise, you won't see a single Skeggy 'shorts and t-shirt brigade' at any of them.

We have loads of people come into our shop from Butlins Tom!  We stock quite a range of fancy dress accessories and wigs and we find that on these themed breaks such as the Blues weekend and 60's weekends etc many Butlins customers call in and buy such things as Blues Brothers hats and sunglasses or hippy wigs etc to dress up in for fun. It would seem that everyone on these themed breaks dresses up and we are usually quite busy on these weekends. I bet you have been in our shop during your walkabouts - we are near to the clock tower.  I do not like to say our shop name in case I am breaking any rules by advertising it - but you cannot miss us if you are up that end of town. Look for the Marine Boathouse pub and we are right next door!

MSN messenger is a kind of chatroom but not one of those awful chatrooms where you get inundated with strangers pestering you - but a chatroom where you invite personal friends or people you are happy to communicate with to talk to. You can have an instant conversation with them. You type your message and the person you are talking to sees what you type immediately and then they can immediately type a message back. If you are online on your computer and are registered on MSN you will immediately get a little icon flash up accompanied by a funny little sound that alerts you when anyone you have added to your friends list is online and if you wish to talk to them you can do.  My best friend and I use it all the time cos it is free and saves on our phone bills! I too am no expert on computers and only know enough to get it to do what I need it to do Tom - so maybe someone else can explain messenger and how you download it etc better than I have.  My 18 year old has downloaded messenger for me and I rely on her for anything I do not understand but if you did want to download messenger I am sure if you ask for assistance someone on here will point you in the right direction!

My brother is a keen photographer too Tommy and like you - he has found the computer a wonderful tool with his hobby and does all sorts of clever things with it!

Anyway - if ever you are in Skeggy call in and I will make you and your wife a cup of tea to warm you against our bracing north sea wind.

Where you going on holiday in January by the way?  Someplace warm and sunny I guess?

Sue

Hi Sue, sorry I'm not Judy, but just have to say that Clumber Park is beautiful all year round, but in autumn it is amazing, so many trees, so many colours, really beautiful.  Both the caravan club and the camping & caravanning club have sites within the boundaries, the latter being in a walled garden near to the centre of the park.  BTW, I was in Skeggy for a day last month whilst camping at Mablethorpe.  It really is bracing there isn't it, I noticed the difference from just up the coast a few miles.  You're so lucky, I'd love to live near the sea.

Hi Elaine,

Apologies for getting your name wrong - I think I must be on another planet soemtimes! Thanks for the info - it sounds lovely - will have to give it a try sometime.  We are more than likely going to go of for a few days next week somewhere. We might try the Peak District or Cornwall ...... but so spoiled for choice - we can't decide!

Funny when you live near the sea - you tend to take it all for granted and it is not until you venture inland and taste a bit of city and town life that you really value how lucky you are.  However, Skeggy coastline for me does not hold the magnetism, mystery or sheer wildness and beauty of the Cornish coastline and if I lived in Cornwall I really would visit the sea and beach far more often than I do.

Thanks again Elaine.

Sue

hi sue , we will certainly pop in and see you when we are next up. the only reason we are not there this coming jan is because someone else booked our week in lanzerotte and chose the same week as skeggy as one of our friends has a birthday and they thought it would be nice for him to celebrate it in the sunshine. pity though, i really like our blues weekend. we meet up with our daughter;s partner's parents who live in nottingham.he tells me that when he was young he used to ride a bike from home to skeggy and ride around the clocktower and back home again. 80 miles i think?i know what you mean about taking your local area for granted. you probably guessed i drive a taxi.i actually drive a black cab in london and when i think i am picking up people who travel from all over the british isles and from all around the world  to visit london, your quite right. i think it is because the 'wow' value is no longer there. one thing i never tire of though is the people i am lucky to meet and chat to .i meet some really great people from all around the world who, if you bother to talk to them have some great stories to tell.like the little boy who was in london to collect a badge of courage bravery award for saving someones life. there are of course the rich and famous and the lords and ladies but in the end theyare all the same as us ( only with lots more money). i like to learn and i believe the best way to learn about other places is to talk to the people who are from there. for instance, i would like to visit northern ireland so if anyone from belfast gets in my cab i will ask them of places to see or maybe to avoid.they al oblige.sue , your bit about naming your shop is interesting. i am about to take to court an  exhibitor from one of the shows and although i cannot say at the moment who it is i really want to warn you all of this company when i feel i can. another exhibitor at these shows is in court  this week with the same company. i can say that the company i speak of does not fit their goods to our vans so don't worry if you think you have purchased from them.  will keep all informed as i can. tom

Hey Tommy,

How spooky .......... you are into photography and are a taxi driver and so is my brother!  He owns his own taxi business and photography is his passion - spooky or what?

I like meeting people and I love talking to the older folk and listening to some of their tales and even during our limited experience of motorhoming we have met some quite colourful characters from the retired sector and their energy and zest for life never ceases to amaze or impress me.

OOOh - sounds quite interesting about taking this company to court - will be interested to hear what happened and what exactly you problem was with them.

I didn't like to name my shop on here just in case there are some rules on this forum about advertising etc and I didn't want to get into any trouble for plugging my business . But we do sell "allsorts" if that tells you anything?

I am just rushing off to work so will talk again later.

Take care.

Sue

hi sue. fancy you brother doing the same as me? all i think i should say about the court case i am preparing is that it is household and made of 'fibreglass'.this company is a real bad one. with luck they will not be at any of the shows anymore to con innocent people.this of course will not be my decision but i promise i will divulge all as soon as i can. the clue may help as your's did.tom
