What are the legal considerations with regards to demoutables? Romehomes apart I’ve seen several (I’m sure you have) that seem to me to be a mismatch with the base vehicle. For example 1600 diesel VW Golf/Skoda pickups with outsized campers of various manufacture, which appear to be of foreign origin. Anyhow does anybody kown what sort of MPG and MPH you could expect from one of these outfits.
I used to run a Nissan Navara with a Northstar DL850 demountable. Never had any problems with Police or any other authority. By way of design most demountables look to be over large but to me so do many normal motorhomes. Insurance was much cheaper than having a vehicle and caravan, same as any motorhome in fact.Navara used to return approx. 25- 28 mpg on a run, and was good for about 85-90 mph with camper securely fixed to bed( if using high speeds mpg could drop to 10-12. Easy to use, excellent when on tour, leave camper body at site, use pickup for explore the area. One point to anyone thinking of a demountable, make sure it has electric jacks fitted, manual ones take ages to load and offload camper.
