Hi,

Looking to purchase our first motorhome. We live in Warrington, Cheshire. Can anyone suggest any good retailers in the area. We'd like to purchase a MH that can fit two adults and also a couple of large dogs.
Any hints or tips?

Many Thanks

We looked at Marquis in Preston ,very pleasant sales staff but not willing to do a deal even though I was virtually bursting to buy one so we walked away and they called us two days later.......unfortunately for them we had bought one else where!!!!

The salesmen at all the dealerships try to make you feel there is very little room for a discount on the asking price so please walk away, you can always come back and try again.

Look at as many dealerships as you can, then work out your needs and narrow your search down to the type of motorhome you are looking for.

If you are prepared to travel to look at motorhomes have a trip over the pennines and visit Richard Baldwins at Halifax and Lowdhams Leisure in Huddersfield.

With two large dogs you are going to need a reasonable amount of floor space so bear in mind if you have to make the beds up from the seats just how much space will be left for them on the floor once the bed is made up!

Good luck in your search, hoping you find the right one for you very soon!

Have a trip up the A55 to Abergele. Threeways motorhomes just off the A55 are a smaller retailer and the 2 Mikes will look after you.
As they are smaller we found there was no pressure whatsoever.
It will take you about 1 hour to get there.

We bought ours from Hymer UK and had excellent service.  However, they have expanded considerably recently so don't know what they're like now.  Worth a look. Spinney, just outside Knutsford are quite near you but never had any dealings with them.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.

i would say you need to work out what your going to do for most of the time your in your camper. we got a nice all mod cons with the bed in the middle, the problem was when the bed was up we could do nothing else. so we looked at a few and picked an end lounge with an over head bunk. at least the rest of the van can be used when the end bed is put up.

dont forget you only cook at the most 3 meals a day, so a big kitchen is great if your going to do a lot of cooking. same as a bathroom/ toilet, can you use the shower if needed, if so fine, why get a big shower room if not needed, it cuts down on other space.

we do a lot of tv/ lounging, so the U shape lounge it good for us, and its only the 2 of us, if one wants extra sleep we climb up to the luton.

you need to think long and hard on what you will be doing the most of and pick your layout to suit. or you will be changing it about 12 months later, like we did. hope that helps.

Buying a Motorhome is a huge financial outlay, second only to buying a house. If you dont get it right first time, it will cost you thousands to change.

Think about... The sort of layout you want. Rear or mid lounge. Is height an issue, as you can get low profile coachbuilts. If you like to carry a large payload look at the unladen weight, as opposed to the gross weight, of any van. Do you want a fixed bed, or a lounge that you make up the bed. Is the kitchen area right for you. Is the washroom area big enough.

And the best advice i can give... Is shop around the Country for the best price, then haggle your NEAREST dealer to match it. Because inevitably you will most likely want warranty work done, and to travel halfway across the country, is a real pain in the ass.

And lastly, if you do find the van you want. Make sure you haggle for all the optional extra's included.. Roll out Awning, Silver Screens, Hook Up Lead, Waste Water Container, etc, etc.

Happy Hunting.

I agree wiith what has been said by others. I t depends on what you want.  We have a central dinnette and overcab so have the problem that 'floppy' describes ie when get out of the overcab need to be careful of those below.  We did think of changing to an end lounge but realised that most of them do not have seat belts in the habitation area,  whereas we have the luxury of 4 belted seats so can transport 6 people.  Still like the idea of the end lounge but life is a conpromise.

Try spinneys just down the road from you in Knutsford. Use there huge stock of new and used models to get an idea of the layout you would like. I personaly wouldn't buy from there but it's a good place to do your research. We have a 6 berth with end bunks which is great for our two kids.
