Does a leisure battery which is connected to alternator, suppose to charge up whilst being plugged into a cool box, whilst driving. In other words does it re-charge and discharge at the same time.

Went on a 120 mile journey with cool box plugged in, upon arrival, my battery was low and small spot lights gave up on me ?

The battery in new.

On return journey, battery seems charged up as did not plug anything in !

Any helpers, thanks.

--If you are running a cool box while driving you need it connected--to the main battery--the leisure battery is not charged at the same rate as the main vehicle battery--do you have it plugged into the cigar lighter on the dash?--this should be on the main battery--unless it has been wired to the leisure battery during the camper conversion--coolboxes have a high current drain--if you run it overnight on your vehicle battery it will flatten it--

Not sure how the charge is split at a different rate between leisure and main batts? Mine charge at the same rate from the alternator with the engine running, as the output is just split to both batts.

Billy is correct in saying that electric cool boxes flatten the batts quickly.

--I'm guessing slightly here --but the I had the same thing with my VW camper--the cigar lighter was connected to the leisure battery--& a cool box plugged in didnt work properly--maybe it was drawing too much current--what makes me think this is because the 3 way fridge in a campervan is always wired to the vehicle battery (to work only when the engine is running)---not the leisure battery--
