Our Swift Sundance 630G weighs in at around 3600kg in working trim, and is 23' long, with a large overcab.
The 2.8JTD engine will, at a push return 25mpg, but I normally cruise at around 70mph (GPS speed,, so indicated 75 on the clock) and get nearer 20mpg.
That said, when we're not in a hurry due to restricted time off work, it easily returns 23-4mpg cruising around the lanes at gentle speeds!
I just chipped the engine, and no difference has been noticable, apart from the torque.

Pay us more ???? Thats a laugh.
Constant fuel inefficiency by a driver can result in disciplinary action.
Has it really got that bad Jeff? I have to say I am glad to be out of it and retired, even though with the firms I worked for I was always one of the most fuel efficient drivers on the road, and incidently I get 30 mpg on a good run with my 2.8 jtd Ducato.
Regards .

Diesel engines are all about torque, and are driven completely different to a petrol engine. As a lorry driver, we are given assessments of fuel efficient driving, and our MPG is monitored constantly by the company. We are set a average of 8 mpg for a 38 ton artic, and if we do less than 7 mpg, the firm wants to know why. and we are assessed again.
It all becomes clear!
This is why when I am travelling along a dual carriageway at 70mph about to overtake a lorry the driver will pull right out in front of me rahter than slow a little and let me pass before he overtakes.
Obviously, explains a lot.
