We bought the Movelite XL which is a great size and very easy to erect and take down. A few minutes is all it takes to drive up to or away from it. Unfotunately we have found it leaks around the zips in heavy rainfall spoiling our pleasure in having such a great awning. I wondered if anyone else has had this problem.  Puzzled

Hi all
This is a great thread.
I have just bought a coachbuilt (Swift Sundance).
(We are about to sell our VW AS Trident).
We had a crappy awning which was a bugger to put up - had to thread the poles through the hoops to make a tunnel. It didn't withstand our British wind and rain either.
The main problem was that my partner has Rheumatoid Arthritis so struggled to help me. It would be great to get one I can put up alone.
We have pretty much decided to get a Khyam (despite the storage size), but the Movelite XL and Navigator XL (both Outdoor Revolution I think) seem like possibilities.
Can anyone tell me how they are put up? Are they click together sewn in poles?
Cheers in advance

I also have the Movelite XL and am extremely pleased with it. It is quick to erect and only takes a few minutes to disconnect and drive away. Like you Puzzled mine also suffered with leaking from around the zips but I bought some Fabsil Seam Sealant and put round zips. Problem sorted, never leaked since.

We had a 2008 Movelite Square(smaller version of XL)..and we found it a bit of a faff to put up to be honest..the "shoulders" on the pole uprights took some shuffling through the pole sleeves..(Now sold as we never used it).

If it was me,I'd be looking at something along the lines of a Day shelter/Utility tent(sorry,I do tend to go on about this a bit!. )

Something like this type of thing:

http://www.sunnflair.com/tents/utility_inner_tents/209-day_room

Especially if it's only going to be used occasionally, when you're joined by friends/grandchildren etc.....and it could always be used at home for bbqs/parties etc..

This is what I had before the Movelite XL. You only need to pitch it close to your motorhome and then no worries about unclipping or realigning when you depart/arrive back. The only downside (if you can call it that) is you have no cover from the motorhome door to the door of dayroom if it is raining (or to shield you from the burning sun )

Thanks everyone
The Movelite does sound good. You think one person can put it up?
We will want an inner tent so our friends can stay with us.
so the cabin style ones won't be right for us I don't think.

from scotsbob,  have seen whilst been parked up on site an 'instant' tent.  On enquiring was told it was a tent bought from Decathlon. It was erected and taken down in minutes, and was actually shown how to do it.  It was a 4/5 berth, and all the sides could zip open.  The lady who had it was travelling on her own and had fixed to her camper doorway. Said it cost her about £150. Have looked into Decathlon webb site and there is a video trailer showing to erect/dismantle tent. Seriously thinking about getting one myself, would also do for grandchildren in back garden.

We have some friends who use one..and it is very handy...

(...just make sure you get some practice in putting away again though... )

Hi

Have a good think about a drive away awning , we have been travelling for the last 2 winters and have seen 100,s of these awnings , most campers do not bother to detach and end up stayingput. Had a chat to the guy next me who said he was up and down all night every time the wind blew. Why not think about a stand alone does the same job with better anchorage.

Mine is a CGI Apache , It has a drive away function but i tuck them in and pitch it freestanding , it sits 4 comfortably, and is as steady as a rock. Downside is the weight 20+ kg . Been on a windy site most of the winter and many other campers have enquired

We have a Khyam Motordome and as others have said it's worth every penny. Another benefit is that they are very sturdy. We were camped down in Cornwall last August bank holiday and the weather was horrendous one night - gale force winds and awful rain. Our Khyam stayed up and was wet but fine. The following morning others woke up to find their awnings had detached themselves from their vans and poles had broken and the contents of the awnings had blown away too.
