ask yourself why? they are  not cheap but are a good investment if you intend on spending long periods away.

If your just using it for holidays and many weekends I personaly wouldn't bother.

You can spend a fortune customising you MH to what you want and you will just go on and on, seeing as it's your first use it a while and then see what areas you might like to customise it to ie electric awning etc.

ANyhow welcome to the site it's great fun on here and enjoy your purchase it sounds really nice.

I must admit to that I too have considered a solar panel, but having read a thread somewhere about the pros and cons of mounting them. I.e. if you lay them flat they are not as effective as actually facing the sun, chose a generator.

Not to everyone’s liking I know, but the Honda at around £800.00 is perfect and quite, possibly save you money too, time you add up the inverter, panel and all fittings and better still – if you chose to sell your van you keep the Genny.

we have solar panels on our van and to us they are worth their weight in gold.....we went away with a couple of friends a few years back in a van without panels, we lasted 2 days on 12v before we had to run the engine for 20 mins, they lasted all week with no trouble and it wasn't exceptionally sunny either, as many people say it depends what you do with your van. we go to a few shows and rallies and things and they are godsends for that. i can recommend a company called bss down in hertfordshire, they do satellite systems and solar panels amongst other things. there is a nice campsite where you can stay overnight for free whilst he is doing your van. excellent quality workmanship too.

we had a solar panel fitted and it was a brilliant move for us, we can camp on non-electric sites for as long as we like without any worries.

Solar panels are great if you can get them at the right price. I know that sounds obvious but the cost of panels in the UK is ruinous. You need to have 80w+ for it to be viable and don't forget that you will also need at least another "leisure" battery.

I have 80w and 400A+ of leisure battery and I have found it to be well worth it but then I "wild camp" all the time
