Hi Turbodoug,
We are returning motorcaravanners - our first, and last, ownership was a bay window VW Westfalia between 1979 and 1982 which we part exed for a car and caravan when the family got bigger. We bought our Devon from a small dealer near Whitchurch in Shropshire - we noticed it as we returned from a visit to Lazydays, stopped, and bought it the same day.
I don't know the layout of a Talbot Harmony so can't really comment but our reasons for buying the Devon Discovery on a SWB Transit were primarily two fold:
Firstly, we live in an apartment in Llandudno and have no off street parking so the vehicle had to be easy to park as Sue uses it for work every day - a large 6m plus coachbuilt would be totally impractical.
Secondly, the Dicovery conversion has a separate toilet/shower room, invaluable when stopped in a layby or on a Caravan Club CS site with minimal facilities - in fact even on some main Club sites which don't have WCs! What you gain in privacy you lose in storage but at this point we don't intend to use it for longer than 2/3 nights so it is not a major problem for us.
Since we bought the 'van at the end of April we have been away 3 times and find it very comfortable. The beds are easy to set up, we only use sleeping bags rather than quilts but they are large ones so plenty of moving around space! We particularly like the facilities for the TV with it's own dedicated support and electrics hidden away - rather than resting it on a worktop. Of course that also depends on what size TV you have! Blow air heating is available but we generally use a small 240v fan heater.
The head chef is happy with the kitchen area unfortunately there is only room for one. Ours is fitted with water heater and booster pump but I'm not sure if they are standard fittings.
I could probably go on a bit but it's probably easier if you ask me any specifics that you're not sure about.
John
PS Are you anywhere near North Wales?
