Am a bit worried about giving advice as a novice myself, but here goes anyway! The in car dvd player i use for my daughter has got a tv mode so it will play thru a tv.it plugs into the cigarette lighter socket so that makes it 12v right? Its a wharfedale and came from argos!
Hi- I had the same thoughts and bought a DVD player from currys. It works off 12volt and also its own clip on battery pack which can be recharged from a 12v supply. It will also operate off 240v when on EHU. It came with leads to play via the Av channel on the TV also as its own remote. Its 7inch screen with headphones make it an ideal bad weather entertainment centre, or as you say if you cant get a TV signal. kiev
Hi- There probably are from electronic shops, but the price would be far greater than these portable DVD / CD players. When plugged in to the TV, you can close the lid down, they are very compact, and dont forget they are take anywhere machines. There is an offer from Aldi for a DVD player only for under £20 on 7th June, but does not say if it would work on 12v, if not you would have to use an inverter, but its all adding to bulk. kiev
We bought a 240v/12v DVD player with digital and analogue TV incorporated. It gives us about 3 hours battery time and charges very quickly, although we can use it on hook-up or through a 12v adaptor. When it arived we were a little suspicious because it doesn't have a brand name, but the unit is superb. It has a 10" TFT screen which swivels through 360 degrees and the sound quality is what you'd expect from a small unit like this - perfectly acceptable but not sensurround or whatever they call it. And the remote control works!
According to the info pack, it includes games and MPEG-4 (?) and a long list of other features I don't understand.
Can recommend it. It cost us about £120 on E-bay and it's worth every penny.
If you're interested post a message here and I'll look out who we bought it from.
interested in this thread !! can someone advise as to how long it takes to recharge battery pack when plugged into ciggy lighter ? ( roughly )
cheers
Should be the same time as when plugged into the mains - these portable DVD players generally are designed to be battery operated and need an adapter to run off the mains.
BTW you can get 10" screen DVD players from Toys R Us for £80.
