Hey

Question for all you seasoned motorhomers - especially those who haven't got a huge budget for improvements!!

What is our cheapest option for tv reception? We would like to buy a flat screen tv as with a two year old we are pretty tied to the van in the evenings - and my husband is useless at cards (and besides that, he cheats). We are quite happy that we can buy the tv, but there is no point if we won't get any decent reception. Our ancient built in aerial doesn't receive much of a signal, but we can't afford the satelite option.

We have tried a feeview usb tv stick for the lap top - what a waste of money that was!!

Any ideas? The cheaper the better. As long as it works! Don't want to throw any more money away!!!

Tess x

Boris

I have a section of pole pemanantly fixed to the rear ladder, i then have a cheap £10 domestic arial fixed to another section of pole which i just slot on. I then feed the coaxil cable through the back door, or you could use a window. Where ever i am with this setup i get a perfect picture and all of the freeview digital channels.

Jeff

Thanks for that! Was beginning to think just receiving a bit of telly was going to cost the arm and leg I still have after buying the motorhome in the first place!!

Tess

People spend hundreds of pounds having these Status Arials fitted, yet they are absolute rubbish. Every van i've had with one fitted has been crap. So much so, that i never had one fitted to my new van.

The arial i bought was £9.99 in Argos by the way, and it will cost you about the same for a slot together aluminium pole.

We had a status multi- directional aerial already fitted to the van when we bought it and it works perfectly even with freeview.  Also have a freeview USB sitck at home and it works perfectly ( has a lead to the main aerial)

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.

We also use a normal high gain (lots of elements) tv aerial on a brush handle that fastens to the jockey wheel support. About £10 from most places.

If you are buying a new LCD tv get one with a built in Freeview tuner and you will be amazed at the quality of picture. The signal is being increased starting next year as analogue is phased out so reception will further improve.
