We've had several old caravans over the years never spent much on them (less than £700 each) bought a 12 seat minibus for £900 and have been converting it slowly most we've spent was on the foam for the beds/seat and our luxury item is a fridge. No tv etc just lot's of books and a cd player. Doesn't have to cost a fortune !

I think what i have learned in the short space of time when adding to my van is that the word liesure means ££££££

to the retailers

whether it means things you have to have or just add ons and gadgets

they are all so expensive

We were on a site last weekend and the majority of Motorhomes were vintage models and they all looked great.

It was good to see they had stood up the test of time and had been cherished by their owners past and present.

Obviously they had been very well looked after and maintained,we are good at the looking after bit (cleaning and polishing) but rubbish at the diy bit (fixing and modifying) hence we have to run back to the dealer at the first whiff of a problem!

Hey! thanx everybody - this is quite cool getting a new perspective on the whole motorhoming thing! We haven't met (face to face) anybody who has been as friendly as all the folk who have given us tips on this site. Gives me faith though that we will!!

We are enjoying the actual motorhome thanx delboydriver. When we were doing the dreaming of a motorhome thing last year and teasing ourselves looking round dealers, we didn't find any with a layout we liked as much as the one we have! (it has L shaped lounge at rear, which seems unusual-ish)

Hi Tess,

Welcome on board and to the exciting and adventurous world of motorhoming

Firstly, just let me say that whatever you have just enjoy it to the max. I know some of us may have posh new motorhomes with all the mod cons and others may have older models with basic essentials but whatever you have I say just have fun and adventure in it. You dont NEED all the luxuries to enjoy motorhoming and as nice as it is to have them it's like anything in life you don't miss what you have never had and the fact that you and your hubby can now travel around together, sampling different places and spending fun filled time together whilst meeting like minded people on your travels is wonderful and these are the important and memorable things about owning a motorhome.

The little extra luxuries you can pick up as you go along and maybe once in a while you can treat yourself to something new but believe me there are some bargains to be found out there, especially at places like Lidl and they are often advertiisng some offer or another on all kinds of camping equipment and so you really dont have to go spending a fortune on these things. Just think of the enjoyment you will get each time you add something new to your accessories and equipment list and I know when we first got ours I was so excited whenever I bought a new piece of equipment for her. I recall being ecstatic when I bought my melamine dinner set and when I came back from wilko's with 6 acrylic wine glasses I was beside myself ha ha!

So Tess providing your motorhome is roadworthy and not going to break down on you I would say just get out there and enjoy every special moment and don't worry about what others have got as we all had to start off somewhere and there was a time not so long ago when our kids were little when we couldn't have afforded a pushbike never mind a second hand well used motorhome and if we had been able to afford one - we would have considered ourselves very lucky!

Have fun and enjoy the freedom and the adventures before you.

Sooh
