Has anyone got any suggestions for attaching our Khyam Motordome to the side of our Compass Avantgarde? This is what it's supposed to look like...

 but the top of the "tunnel" is about 2.5 metres high! Last year saw me standing on the Aquaroll in an attempt to reach the top (I'm 1m 67cm) and we ended up putting suction hooks on the side of the van to try to hook the tunnel on that way. Any suggestions (apart from carrying a stepladder) would be gladly received, cos at nearly 40 I feel I'm getting too old for risky acrobatics!

I have a different camper and awning to you but we have to throw the lines over the roof and peg them down the other side. It works well though.

i had a "C" rail fitted and use a PDQ but find it quite hard to get it into the channel as i am only 5' 7".
i would think the best bet would be as robin52 said. hope that helps.

You could have a J-Rail fitted and use some figure 8 clips to fix it, a small folding step to stand on to reach.

How nice to be called a whippersnapper! I'm afraid the old legs aren't what they used to be... it's bad enough getting out of the overcab bed in the morning!  

I suppose that attaching the Motordome passes an afternoon, provides good exercise for the participants and entertainment for the onlookers, and gets you into the local A&E fairly pronto when you fall out of the van door window! Might even get a ride in an air ambulance if staying on a remote site... perhaps I'd better not tempt fate. Maybe I could get a troupe of chinese acrobats stowed in the ultrabox instead...

Hi there, we have just bought the same annex as you and have an Ace Modena, its 268.5 cm high from floor to the awning channel.  We bought a 3 mtr strip of  "Kador fabric" £20.00 from Khyam, we have left it permanently in the awning channel and are going to fix it to the annex using the figure of eight strips which came with the annex.  To help us do this we bought a small pair of steps from B&Q which just reach.

Hi – we have almost the same van and Motor Dome as you. I’m over 40 and can easily do this myself.

I erect the awning and slide the plastic trim through the tunnel part of the Dome, to the centre of the rib (I hope you understand what I mean)

Then standing on the top of the upper most step reach up and clip the plastic trim onto the awning channel, it’s as simple as that, when we want to move from our position – we simply do everything in reverse. Make sure you mark your spot by using a ground peg or something – so when you return you’re in exactly the same spot as when you left.

All you do then is stand on the top step and secure the plastic trim into the awning rail and your done.

To update you... we used one of the dog's toys (a toy panda) to tie a length of tent line to and throw it over the roof (took a few goes), then reef-knotted a guyline onto the otherside and pegged it; had two of these lines in. I'm not sure how well the exercise went down at the Caravan Club site where we were staying (I think we were a bit under dressed for the occasion, I'd forgotten my ballgown for starters  ) Anyway it seemed to work OK with two lines, and better after we'd driven off to Pembroke, had fish and chips and come back again, as we didn't park so close to the Motordome! Only problem was some puddling with torrential rain (well it was June in the UK... so it had to rain!). So thanks for all your suggestions.

Handy hint - walkie talkies from Asda make reversing van to EXACT spot a doddle, impresses the neighbours, and no falling out with the driver!
