Hello me again

I have in an earlier post asked about the best TV to buy for our new motor home.

Can someone please help with using the internet whilst we are away from home?  Someone has suggested a blackberry as using a phone to connect to the internet is really expensive.

Also we cannot meet the Steam Rally meeting.  Are there any rallies this weekend we could come along and talk to motor home owners, so we can pick their brains.

The advice received by others on this site earlier in year set us up when looking for a motorhome.

Many thanks

Tia

A satelite laptop!!!!!  a wifi laptop more like....i thought motor home life was about stepping out of the loop and getting close to nature.... as for using a t-mobile sim on the pound a day deal...this deal is aimed at phone users and  states in the terms & conditions....lap top use is not allowed and the sim will be blocked if used other then with a mobile phone...  As with what tv to get...well a 15 inch wide screen  would be better then a square one as you wont have those black bands top and bottom...you need to ensure the tuner is digital....as this will save on the cost of a top set box later.. most sets are (home or portible) rated at 50 watts....though there are sets that offer lower wattage consumsion...so any set lower then 50w would be ideal...woolworthes have a few sets on offer for around the £100 mark...240/12v and checking the lable on the back i noted one was 37 watts....which is less power greedy....though why manifactures cant reduce power consumsion is beyound me

Hi Tia,

A lot of mobile phones can be used as a modem using either bluetooth or a usb cable. They usually come with the software to enable you to connect this way. A lot of the service providers will also have a fixed price tarrif for data connection you would use it GSM rather than dial up it is much cheaper that way and you only pay for data sent or received.

Our daughter uses her samsung phone to do this when she needs to send essays to her tutors at Uni when she is away from home or an internet connection.

Tina
