Hi All,

Just joined ukcs (found it whilst 'googling'). We are waiting for our '91 Rambler to have its habitation check/service/mot to be done so we can collect it...hopefully Monday next. We are 'returning' motorcaravanners after a 6 year break...to be honest, in the last couple of years owning our '64 VW Splitty we didn't use it much for camping...the beds got too small lol.

Anyways, just thought I'd drop you all a line to say 'Hi'

Thanks All

The Rambler has arrived home after all its checks etc and we are getting pretty excited now We were hoping to get away this weekend but some friends for Birmingham are unexpectantly visiting for the weekend...but we forgive them for as they have a Rambler too!!

We are filling her up with all the necessary items (and all the 'might be useful one day' stuff that never gets used) so she i now getting that 'lived in' feel, even though we haven't been away in her yet.

Our previous 'special' vehicles were given a name (the VW was 'Herman' and the Standard 8 was 'Violet') so we decided as the Rambler fell into the 'special' category, then she should also have a name.
After much deliberation we have sort-of settled on Rambling Rose .. the Rambling bit is fairly obvious being a Rambler but the Rose bit (whilst flowing quite well with Rambling) was arrived at following a train of thought .... Talbot being kinda French (Peugeot)... French to me is Edith Piaf (it's an age thing) ... Edith Piaf = La vien rose ... bundle it together and voila ... Rambling Rose!!

Mike

PS But she may end up as just 'Edith'

Hi Phil,

I'm going to attempt to construct the bed 'fill-in' bit from your design. My woodworking skills are not great so if it breaks and we fall down the gap I'll just blame the designer or my tools

Having posted that design I have to say...I've yet to sleep on it!! I don't think it bears much weight though in the position it sits in so I'm sure you'll be fine.

I have a friend on another forum with a similar van and he's given me some more photos if you need them.

These are the actual dimensions form his infill piece and I think it's an original

Top : 89cm x 28cm
longer Leg : 38cm x 28cm
Short Leg : 25cm x 28cm.

The measurements I used weren't too far off considering they were guesstimates!

Top 90 x 27.5cm

Long leg 40.5 x 27.5cm

Short leg 30 x 27.5cm

I used 12mm ply for construction.

Good luck, watch the fingers!

Phil

Thanks Phil,

I reckon I will need to use 18mm ply as I have gained a few lbs lately

Pics would be useful if you could send them to me at mike.sheppard at ukonline.co.uk I would be very grateful.

Regards,

Mike

18mm will be fine as long as you take it in to account although as the differencs above show, the measurements need only be somewhere near to work properly.

I'll email some more pics to you.

Hi All,

Made the infill and it resulted in a good nights sleep. Followed Phil's instructions to the letter and, as I work in 'old money' not in this new-fangled metric measurement, it came out entirely different.... I blame my tape...it was made in China. I've got nothing against the Chinese mind you but, if I cant come to terms with metric in fairness I cannot really expect the Chinese to understand it either.

Lifes never been the same since the one and nines at the flicks, tea and sweets came by the quarter and you could go to the corner shop for a pound of broken biscuits

Anyway, after all that ... thanks for your help Phil

In the immortal words of Jimmy Young (Jimmy who???? I hear you youngsters ask).... BFN

Mike
