does any one know were I can get formica from, i need to recover my table on both sides, the size is 18" X 40", i live on the Wirral, i found one place who could order it for me but it would have to be in a sheet 10' X 4', there are reasons why i can't just buy some conti board and make a new one.
Formica and all laminates come in 8x4 or 10x4 sheets. It looks like you need half a sheet. Try a DIY timber suppliers shop to see if they have any half sheets or offcuts. Failing that try a local joinery or cabinet making company where you may be able to get some help.
If you want a specific colour or pattern you will probably have to buy a full sheet unless you are very lucky with any of the above.
Hi- I second that, it is nigh impossible to get small pieces of plastic laminate these days, wether its because it needs bonding down with contact adhesive, glue sniffing abuse , or what. I know its not anywhere as good, but have you considered the rolls of Fablon type stick on covering, in many colours and sold at woollys or DIY stores. kiev
Thanks for your replies, I got some laminate, I was sniffing around an industrial are and I saw this unit and they were making kitchen units, so I just wandered in and asked, really helpful, had some off cuts, so they cut me two pieces 18"x40" and wouldn't take a penny, just shows.
hi sasquatch, it's in Bromborough, it depends what colour you want, they had blue which is what I required, might tell you if you bribe me, but I would have to ask them first, what is it you want?
We had a hole in our table where a book fell out of the top locker. We've had it filled in and it's quite good but may recover in the future. Did you put the new laminate over the top of the old laminate or did you have some way of removing the old finish?Jean

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.
The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.
Hi, Jean, I laminated both sides and I left the old laminate on, just scored it heavily to make sure it stuck, trim on the edge was a bit hard to put back but just heated it up with my wifes hairdrier.Art
Thanks for that 'art'. Unfortuneately our table does not have a trim but is wood with laminate on the top so if we put laminate on top we would have two laminate edges which might not look good. Can't put an edging on wither as the edge is shaped. Will probably put up with it as it is as the alternative seems to be to make a new table. thanks again
