Hello all,

My first time on here but it seems like the place I now need to frequent.

I have an old 1972 VW camper which I have just fitted a 240V hookup to with sockets inside the van.

I have installed a Leisure battery using split charge relay, inline fuses, etc..

Now, the next bit...

I want to install an extra 'bank' of 12v sockets (cigar lighter type ones.. well, I bought a bank which has one cigar lighter and 3 outlet sockets) and run this from the secondary fuse-box which is supplied fromthe leisure battery.  However, I am concious that voltage across a charged / charging batters is 13v plus so I am concerned about connecting items to this supply.

One of the items is a newly purchased 15" lcd TV which runs on 12V albeit from an inline transformer in the mains lead supplied with TV (when plugged into 240V socket when attached to EHU). BUT, I would like to 'make' another lead which has the 12V jack plug for TV end and cigar lighter plug on the other end...  My concern is then that the battery could be supplying 13V plus when charged / charging and possibly supply too much voltage to the TV and POP.

Any advice please?

Thanks in advance,

Evan

I`ve done what you are doing Surfer. My T25 Westy has two leisure batts in parallel, wired with a split charge system, and also charge form an onboard charger when the 240V hook-up is hooked up   My 15" LCD TV works fine from the 12V system (it`s like yours with a 240V transformer box that plugs into the side of the TV, socket says 12V) so I made a lead to suit and plug it into one of the 12V caravan type 2 pin sockets that I have added (same as running it from a fag lighter socket). The 12V system runs through an auxiliary fusebox and then to the TV, no probs with overvoltage or anything like that.

Cool..  So, Joker....

Can I assume your auxiliary fusebox is supplied directly from positive of your leisure battery bank?

If so, seems my requirement is exactly the same as your current setup except for the style of plug at 12Vpower supply end of the TV lead.

Thanks Dudes...

I was starting to worry and it seems the worry was misplaced.

Yes, I ran a new 50 amp power cable from the LB to the fuse box, each fuse is fed from this main cable (jumpers in a chocolate block, 50 amps again). If you want any 50 amp chocolate blocks let me know, I had to buy a pack of 10 to get what I needed! They arn`t easy to come by. Make sure you use properly rated cables, choco blocks, etc etc, I always overspec everything when wiring, especially longer wiring runs.

Have a look at this site for good info. on camper conversion stuff
