Can anyone tell me how much weight can a roof on a motorhome bear. Will it take the weight of a 17stone man or not??????????

Yes a coachbuilt will. I had a coachbuilt and i would climb on top of it and walk around to clean it, i am about 2 stone lighter than you. You cannot walk on the overcab bed section though, as this is not structural.

Obviously you cannot walk on a panel van conversion, or a high top.

I Read in a Kontiki Manual that it recommended no more than 11 stone although I am about your weight and caused no problems although you definitely can not walk on the over cab.

  Never mind send Chris, Who do you think is the daft beggar get's up on the top to clean it,and I'm scared of heights,but it's safer than having him fall through the roof, even if it does take me a few hours to stop shaking.

  we cleaned our roof the other week and lay acroos the roof to help spread our weight out more evenly I think if you kneel or lie down and take extra care on the overcab section it should be fine.

  PS harbour master we are leaving for our first night in Dover tomorrow and will arrive on the French site on Wednesday.

I'm just over 14 stone and walk on the roof to clean it, on occasions my wife has been on the roof at the same time, she is only a mere 9 stone, but our combined weight is over 17 stone and has caused no problems. As pointed out in earlier posts you cant walk on the very front section as it is usually unsupported.

Whether the roof can take it or not, don't do it Bill. Think of the consequences: that's what I was doing when I fell off and shattered my elbow. I'm now the proud owner of three large screws and a right arm at 45 degrees. Now awaiting a further operation at the end of the year. Be environmentally friendly, let it go green.
