If you can store it off road, you can declare a Statutory Off Road Notification and only tax it for 6 moths when you put it back on the road. Please ensure the vehicle is insured even when in storage.

Hi Ken, welcome to UKCS.
I've got a Trigano also. But if you use it for more than 6 months i cant see any way you cannot have less than a full years tax. Running a motorhome is quite an expense, especially a new one, when you take into account diesel, engine service, habitation service, and insurance, trying to save £90 quid a year is a drop in the ocean.

The reason i downsized to a panel van conversion, is that they are economical enough on fuel to use as everyday transport. I think if you are going to run a car, but only keep a motorhome for holidays, then you might as well have a big coachbuilt.
Also, i dont believe it is good for vehicles to be stood up for months on end. Especially commercial diesel vehicles, which is basically what motorhomes are built on.

You can cash in a tax disc before it's expiry,it must be at least one month before though. The rebate is calculated in whole months only.

If it does say 4 trips a year, its possible to get 4 months tax per year. buy the disc, do your trip, return disc & declare SORN.
you do need to be careful about timing though, a weekend trip that rolls you over a month will make for an extra month tax as someone else said they only refunf full months.
I used to do this with my rangerover, then figured it was worth 15 quid a month in case I suddenly felt the deisre to go out and use it as it is by far the best motor i have for longer weekends much further from home

Yer this is a sore subject with me also,i now pay tax for 2 large cars £180 each and a motorhome which does very little millage.not to mention insurance premiums of over £1100 combined, and then MOT,and servicing and fuel.It seems like every month there is something to pay and gets me down sometimes. My point is that i can only drive one at a time so a trade plate idea would be better, lets face it we pay enough tax on petrol.I did consider buying a caravan but storage prices make it almost as expensive as running a motorhome but at least i can keep that outside to work on.
