Hi, can anyone answer or advise on the following:  We have just purchased a 1994 Peugeot Chausson motorhome and we are new to this whole experience.  I have 3 questions.

1.  Should my plug sockets work without being hooked upto the mains.  I switch it over to 12v for lights etc but nothing from the sockets, cant even boil a travel kettle.  Isd this the norm or is something broken?

2.  Where does my waste go fro the sink and shower?  It does not come out underneath, so is there some valve or something I need to switch to enable this or is it a waste tank that is simply emptied?

3.  Does anyone have any instruction booklets for this type of vehicle?

What a learning curve this is.

Thanks everyone

Dean..

Hi Walley1 is this a wind up?

240v mains sockets are just that, you have to be plugged in. look under van you should see an obvious drain valve normally located under the side skirts for easy access. someone on here will have instruction book

I think he could possibly be talking about the 12 volt sockets. On my van you have to turn the 12 v system on, and the switch for the lighting system on, to have power going to 12 v sockets.

Thank you for your answer.  As per previous answer it is not a wind up.  We are just starting out in this and really needed help.  Everyone has to start somewhere.

Whalley

Your 12v switch is for lights and possibly a 10v TV socket – nothing else electrical will work unless you have an inverter that will power your socket from the leisure battery.

Regarding waste (not sure what particular model you have) but you should find 2 drain pipes either side of the rear wheel – just behind the rear of the arch, they will be fitted with a release valve. The near side one will be for waste and the off side one for fresh water drain off. You need to do this in winter to reduce the risk of the container freezing and obviously splitting.

Regarding instructions – contact the manufacturer, they should be able to help depending on how old the unit is.

Hope that helps and welcome to the Motorhoming!

Hi Wally1

Have you got a mains power lead? if so go buy the adapter lead so you can plug in at home it has normal 3 pin plug with blue site plug at other end, get plugged in all sockets will then work this should also start your 12v charger, which inturn will charge your leisure battery. Have you found your drain valves yet?

Cheers everyone for your help.  Just back from a night testing the van.  Found the waste tank tap.  Had a great time.  Have a list the length of my arm with things we need for the next trip.

Hi

Can i suggest if you bought from a dealer that you go back and ask them if they have a manual and some help finding out what everything does!

however in my experience there is nothing like trial and error - you are also in one of the best places to learn.

when we were new to motorhomes i spent long hours on forums and reading magazines for all the info i needed

manuals that come with vans tend not to tell you the little details - eg we had our last van four years and it was only after three that we found out we had to make sure the switch on the electrics panel was in its central piont or the panel itself would use a minute amount of electric all the time. this doesn't seem to be a big deal however it drained the leisure battery to flat several times and in the end ruined it!

Good Luck

Another thing the manuals don't tell you - what modifications the previous owners have done - like wiring it up so that if you didn't switch the fridge to 12v before driving off, the handbrake warning light on the dashboard stayed on.
