I have noticed that during my last two trips to France I have achieved significantly fewer miles per gallon using French diesel than British diesel. Our style of driving is not significantly different in France than in Britain, so I can only assume that there is some difference in the quality of the diesel. Has anyone else experienced this, or have an explanation for this?
i was over in france on my motorbike and put in unleaded two miles down the road and i thought the engine was knackered it sounded like a burst ball i went into the next garage and put in there high octane unleaded and after a few mins it was ok so their fuel is different grade from ours
i have found that after a tank or 2 my camper runs so much better on french diesel. you do know that it all diesel is a min of 5% bio in france. hope that helps.
We filled up at a supermarket in Calais, after that we suffered a loss in performance and fuel economy and we always filled up at branded petrol stations after that. I think there is a differeance between supermaket fuel and branded fuel wherever you are.
I recommend that you always use Texaco diesel but I am biased and collect your WEOU points

Now why would that be i wonder? Should you not also say that the texaco in Congleton is buy far the best fuel in england?
UK diesel is low sulphur for less pollution--I think French diesel isnt--I think if the sulphur is left in the diesel it burns quicker giving better performance but worse fuel consumption--my car always appears to run better on French diesel--

In the UK I get between 30 to 32mpg. In France I get between 32 and 34mpg. The best was 34.7mpg and that was on the cheapest. Engine is a Ford Transit 2.5DI non turbo with over 200k on it
I just got back from France 2 months in brittany really great time and such a beautiful place i must admit i was more interested in my wine consumption than my fuel consumption so whats a couple of clicks one way or another just enjoy
