We have a Toyota Estima, which is just big enough to sleep in, so we thought that an awning tent would be a good idea to allow us to continue camping into Autumn/Winter time.
The problem is fitting it to the car, as the Estimas do not have any guttering. Any suggestions please?

We have the same problem as you. We inially bought two of those sucker things in brass which are , for what they are, hugely expensive, but are perfect if you have a really flat surface. (You can have ours for a tenner)
We then tried various aeroelastics, we now have a bag full. Also rachet type straps. Also tried a pole in the awning sleeve. At a show we saw the Khyam stand and he showed us a figure of 8 strip which you need to purchase from them. This is obviously the best answer but no good for us as an awning rail/guttering is needed.
Now we just use a combination of the elastics which fit onto 3 clips which are on the top of our Renault Trafic.
So if you have no rail or clips it will have to be the suckers or straps over the van to the ground on the other side. A pain I know. Maybe someone else has a better idea??!

Many thanks for your ideas Alex. We are away for a practice run this weekend, but taking the tent for more space during the day, so we'll see if sleeping in the bus pans out before spending cash on an awning. Looks as though a bit of fettling made be needed if we go down this route.

Get a J rail fitted you can use instead of a gutter.  Then use the figure of 8.  If this isn't possible do what we do. Attach some extra guy roped on and chuck them over the top of the van and peg down on the other side.

The long guy ropes seem a cheap and easy method.

Just as an up-date; we're off to a Mazda Bongo meeting in Cheshire this coming weekend to check out the awnings and the vans, so hopefully we'll come up with some ideas before splashing out the cash and making a boo boo.
