Well it's getting close, we are off next sat for 2 weeks wild camping etc around the hebrides, done my homework and hopefully all will go well! (famous last words)
Does anyone have any tips or anything I might not have thought about
plus has anyone had first hand experience at the Three Chimneys restaurant on Skye? and does anyone have any recommendations re places to go
We went 3 years ago and loved it - might go back some time. We had the hop scotch ticket on the ferry and went across to Skye then to Harris then 'hopped' southwards down the whole string of Outer Hebrides. They even let us change our itinary to include a couple of extra 'hops' at no extra charge. We loved the empty roads and isolation.
Wild camping was no problem at all, but one of our best memories is a campsite we stayed on at a place called Cnip - I think it was either on North or South Uist. It's on the West coast on sand dunes, by a white sand beach with turquiose sea that could be mistaken for the Caribbean until you go outside and find that it's about 20 degrees colder than in the tropics. The whole of the coast road near Cnip is a spectacular drive with views of lots of white sand bays.
Make sure you've always got plenty of food etc because there aren't many shops and enjoy your holiday!
Don`t know about the Inner Hebrides, but in the Outers, Sunday observance is strict.
Everything was closed, even the public toilets.
Do your shopping on Saturday.
Chris - I'll let you know how we go on and will post on return so keep looking
Jan - Cnip is on my list, thanks, cannot wait to do some beach walking. Don't leave it too long till you go back as I see in one of the mags recently someone had written in saying how popular it was becoming especially in the summer months and some of the sense of isolation was being lost

And petrol because the garages are few and far between, we filled up whenever we saw a garage, even if it only took a tenner!!
If you can go to Mull, and wild camp at calgary bay, not far from Tobermory, again crystal waters, white sand just lovely and very very free. They encourage the wild camping and even leave a code of conduct for campers you may even get to see a sea eagle above you!!
