Hi we just got our first van a hymercamp 55 on a Fiat ducato base. Everything seems fine but we just need to know 2 things - how do we get the water heated and how do we drain the water boiler for winter. Any advice greatly accepted ta!

If its a Trauma just turn on the hot water tap until the water flows without any spluttering. turn off and then the heater is ready to be lit.Draining is bit like the same in reverse open the cold water tank drain and turn on the hot water tap until no more water flows.

Thanks for the answer sasquatch, this is probably a stupid question but how do you light the heater?? Is it just by switching the button on the wall on?
Water seems to only provided by two plastic tubs in the shower/toilet area so when they're empty that's it! Is there something I'm missing here?? I thought I had to drain the boiler under a cupboard behind the heater - does this make any sense at all?

What year is the van? Our Hymer B534 has a Trume, and that has a red valve that you push down to drain next to the boiler. Our main water tank is under one of the loiunge seats which you fill from the outside, has your van a filler cap for water outside, if so the tank should be inside somewhere near that filler.

You light the water heater by making sure the gas is turned on at the bottle, the automatic changeover if fitted is on, the gas isolation knob (probably in a cupboard by the sink) is on, then use the switch.

Thanks for the answers, think I've found the drain only prob now is getting boiler to work. When I switch boiler on the green light goes on, an audible click is heard, short pause, another click then the red fault light lights. It is a truma boiler connected to any one of three plastic water tanks in the shower area.how do you tell if boiler been, or is filled? Scratching my head and hoping to get it sorted before weekend, loopallu music fest on gonna be wet and cold no doubt!!

to fill the boiler you point the mixer to hot and open the tap, when it stops spluttering and water runs smooth the boiler is full.

Think your next step is to check it's gettign gas, we only get the red light when it fails to start becuase we havn't got the gas turned on.

Check gas on a the bottle, the isolation knobs in the van are turned the right way, ours didn't have any off/on labels so once we figured it out we stuck some on.

Also find that after we have changed a bottle it takes a while to get the gas through to the heater, find that by lighting the stove for a few seconds helps the gas through the system.

Andy

thanks again for your latest suggestions, checked water and gas both seem ok as water running smoothly, heater, cooker and fridge all working too.

Isolation knobs, are those the 4 just above the drain valve? They're all running along the pipes and as everything else seem to be working I take it they're the right way.

When I switch the boiler on I can hear a click then a short pause another click and the red light comes on then too.

Any other ideas? Prob still something I'm not doing right!

In our van the isolation knobes are oval shaped red knobs with poictures of a Snowflake for the fridge, saucepan for the cooker and a stove for the heater/boiler (we have blown heating, no seperate fire).

If you are sure you have gas getting to the boiler the red light then means it is failing to ignite, so there could be a fault with the igniter system, not sure how to check that, maybe you could try here: http://www.trumauk.com/products/water/ as they have some schematics of the waterheaters, may be also worth a quick email to them.
