My folks just purchased a motorhome and asked me to look around the net for cheap insurance,is there a site where you can enter details and looks through many sites and gives the cheapest to most expensive like you get for car insurance like confused.com

Or can you guys give me some ideas and who is best priced these days,i have found one or two with various quotes and need to find the cheapest and also best, there will be three other drivers to the main driver for this insurance.

thanks brian

I got the best quote from Adrian Flux - just type it into google and it will come up with their phone number.

They gave me a special discout when I said I was expecting it to be cheaper - so don't accept their first offer without saying something like, 'oh, I was expecting something a bit cheaper than that', you never know.

They literally sorted me out in an hour. I believe Saga insurance is quite popular with older folk, so try them as well.

Hiya bwatt99

Welcome to UKCS!

We're insured with COMFORT INSURANCE (0845 602 0281).  We found them to be the cheapest at the time and also had the lowest excess.  They also gave us discount for being members of certain clubs (ie Auto-Trail Owners Club).

We now also insure our car with them, as again we found them cheaper than our current company (£50 - better off in my pocket than theirs!!).

Good luck.

Heres my experience

Saga my existing insurers want £380 without european cover and £250 excess
Safeguard----£466
Shield------£367
Adrian Flux---£303 +£95 breakdown but no excess
Comfort---£354 £100 excess
Caravan guard--£333 --£250 excess
Best is M.C.I.A.£325--£100 excess

**Quote on 2001 ci .1.9d £20000 only first year no claims but have 40 years with car (never had an accident touch wood) and clean licence ,fully comp with european breakdown cover**

Received my renewal from Saga it was £380 inc breakdown ,so i cancelled the insurance and then re-applied in the web ,with their 20% discount for online policiesand another quote  i have now got it down to £275 for all the cover i need.

Caravan Wise, for me beat all the above companies.

CIS will also insure but as a vehicle only, so your contents would have to be covered by home insurance.

Hi,

Safeguard were best for me, matched my car's no claims, and gave free breakdown cover with the AA, including european breakdown cover. I insured both the car and van though Swinton at the same time, but two different offices, who spoke to each other amazingly enough.

Comfort were dearer without the breakdown cover, and the Camping and Caravan Club couldn't quote as I had a car as well.

If you make a lot of use of your van and are away from home a lot, then consider putting your House Insurance with the same Insurer as your van. This can avoid any argument over whose the Insurer for your personal goods if stolen from your van. Comfort gave me competitive rates for both.

Try Lifesure - not sure if they do motorhomes but I don't see why they shouldn't. We insured our Toyota TownAce (import) with them, they quoted us for fully comp almost half what other companies quoted us just for tp,f & t

Hi,

We insure with Safeguard which includes unlimited European use and full European breakdown cover As it was very competitive, I have been told its worth checking the NFU as we have been told they cover motorhomes as well, we do insure our cars with them and they were the cheapest (we are not farmers and we don't live in the countryside)

http://www.nfumutual.co.uk/you/motor-insurance/car-insurance.htm

The other thing to check if you want breakdown cover is that it does cover the weight of your vehicle as a lot of the major breakdown companies won't handle anything above 3500kg albeit some of them do if its a combined policy so double check,  also most of them have special conditions for vehicles over 3500kg even when they are covered so its really worth checking the small print

As for home insurance, you really need to check the small print again as most of these have very short limits on the length of time you can leave the house empty for ??  The best one that we have found is with Nationwide you need to double check but when we renewed they allowed unlimited time away from home as long as you met certain conditions and the you had someone checking the premises every (I believe) 2 weeks

Hope that helps

Brian
