Header says it all really. Is it possible to get a second-hand campervan for under two grand? Can be old, doesn't have to be big or fancy, just no idea where to start looking really, so need to know a) if I'm being wildly unrealistic and b) what models to look at. Thanks!

Oops. www.gumtree.com.   There is a campervan section. look on the London site, loads at the moments as a lot of the Australians, kiwis and SAs are going home.

I paid £1,300 for my Starcraft around 2 months ago and have had no problems apart from putting on a new exhuast.

And I bought my little Rascal for 2K from Ebay, but I wouldn't recommend the stress of buying unseen - if you can't go and look/test drive, don't do it!

Have spent another £250 on getting the engine sorted to date, but I'm thrilled nevertheless!

Just remember, the older the engine, the more maintenance it's likely to need - having said that, some of the newer ones have plenty of problems!

Just have a look on ebay (window shopping) and you will get an idea of what you want.

Thanks. I've had her away for a few weekends since i've had her more - recently it has just done a 300 mile round trip this weekend for a music fest in the South of Scotland.

-You will get one--but get it in winter while prices are low & people are more prepared to haggle--also see it as a project & prepare to do some work on it ready for the '08 season--ebay is a good place to buy-but try to veiw the vehicle during the auction & obviouly it may need some work-

yeh i can go along with ebay , but i must say not everyone is out to see to the buyer most people on ebay are good hardworking and honest, It,s just unfortunate that like everthing else in life we only ever talk about the bad side of things.

Personally i would choose ebay over a dealer any day of week , that aside i love a bit of challenge anyway, but on the origional to get a camper under 2K,  NO SWEAT

and ebay is the place for it, as mentioned already lots of people going back to oz etc.

Good luck and happy hunting

I just sold my Transit Mk 1 for £1500,the lady whos buying is very excited.I think she got a bargain though.

There are others out there but you have to look carefully. We  spent a lot of time and money on ours over the 3 years we had her.My husbands a welder mechanic so no problem for us but would have cost hundreds otherwise.

Good luck ,but don't just buy the first one you see unless you know it's right, take someone with you who knows about vans.

caulky that was my Transit, just reminded me to say it's now sold. When you put things up for sale ,you forget how mant places you put an advert or request in a forum, thanks for the reminder.

We bought our T25 a few years ago locally for £895...it was a minibus, but OH converted it to a camper, rebuilt the engine and brother in law did the upholstery..she has sailed thru 2 MOT's...people always come to have a chat when we are parked up or on site with her...see my gallery...and as billy says buy in the winter, not the silly season...
