I am looking to purchase a motorhome up to Ģ6500 pounds and have noticed a number of autosleeper monocoque coachbuilts for sale, have any members owned one or still do and are they as leak free and superior compared to the more usual seamed coachbuilts as the sellers claim.
I have a 2005 autosleepers VW Gatcombe2500tdi,it's brilliant we have owned it for 18months now ,used most weekends. We have had no leaks whatsoever. If you decide to buy an older model, check for damp around the windows as I have read somewhere that this is the place to get leaks due to perished rubber window seals.
We love ours and when we compare it to other vans of the same sort of size and newer we realise how good it really is. They are well built, everlasting(if you look after them)well insulated and the perfect size for car parks and small country lanes. Good luck in your quest, it will be the best thing you have ever spent Ģ6500 on. Ours is 10 years old and is damp tested every year with it`s habitation check and has proven to be as leak and damp free.
We looked long and hard at the Autosleeper monocoques, and would have gone for one they did one in the layout that we were after, unfortunatley they didn't so we ended up with the Hymer A-Class
Cheers all for your opinions, they certainly sound a good buy,its now just a matter of tracking one down i would prefer a diesel,i am also open to other conversions but the monocoque appeals to me as ihave owned much older vans with the dreaded water leaks which are bound to happen over time ,they appear to be a sound proposition.
