We are looking at changing our calypso with regrets . My wife is finding hard to get about with her arthritis

There are two things you may be able to help us with,

Witch van do you recommend to take a disabled scooter in a garage or on the back .

We do not want a large van .. witch is the smallest van with a garage .

We saw a photo in mmm of a small fold up mobility scooter any one got one and does it pack up and fit in a box on rear of van .Any advice please .Want to try and get it right with your help. thanks

Been looking at a few vans like this.  The ones I have seen are the Hymer Van, Buerstner, Dethleffs, Knaus,Weinsberg (Knaus and Weinsberg 550 are virtually identical) and Rapido 703F (plus some others but this is my shorlist).  Both Knaus and Weinsberg have a good garage but I found them to be a bit short on storage space inside the van.  Buerstner and Dethleffs had a good garages but wasn't keen on internal finish.  Hymer Van seemed good all rounder and Rapido probably had best finish.  Rapido garage was a little smaller than some of the others but could still get a small scooter in.  The advantage of Knaus and Rapido was that for someone with mobility issuse they have fixed steps up to the bed most others have little ladders (Rapido bed can be lowered slightly - from memory I think it's about 20cm-  making access much easier but may make it difficult to fit a scooter in the garage when it's at it's lowest height). Hymer has the pull out steps which seem pretty stable.

For me the choice has probably come down to Rapido or Hymer. Rapido seems a little more comfortable but it's a few inches wider than the Hymer and I probably prefer the Ford over the Fiat base vehicle.

Happy hunting!

PS having seen your previous posts should have added more dog room under the table in the Hymer than the Rapido!

We have recently bought Rapido 966M with 3lt Merc engine Fantastic van especially after the Swift Bolero which we kept for only 6 months. Would recommend the Rapido a. no faults on delivery b Excellent finish and for it's size and weight fairly economical. We carry a 50cc scooter in the garage with no probs. Certainly it would carry a fair sized mobility scooter. You do need some kind of ramp to safely access the garage safely with anything heavy and wheeled but take your time looking around as they can be very expensive. We eventully got one for under £60.
All the best in your hunt.

Bolero's AV system never worked from day 1. Dealer said that it could not be sorted as there was a problem with the cabling and the hardware as they came from different suppliers. The shower leaked and was fixed twice.Still leaked.Lots of rattles etc and a general sense of the van not having been built properly ie. a new model without the problems having been ironed out and at £40 000 a very expensive trial run.Anyway we had had enough of it and it was not the fault of the dealer as they tried everything to fix it.The one good thing about the Bolero was the Fiat chassis and engine etc. We then decided to look at foreign vans and found that many of them were definitely better assembled etc. So we bit the bullet and so far and quite a few trips no serious probs just a sticky drawer.
