Some keys can be bought as blanks from ebay for about £35 and you get them programmed yourself for about £15.  A girl at work had one done for her Clio but apparently it doesn't work for Peugeot - or, at least, for a 406. We've got the same problem with our car - only one remote key - and I think we were quoted somewhere in the region of £130 by Peugeot for a spare one.  I'm afraid you're between a rock and a hard place on this one.

Thanks for all the replies!!

If I had known I was only going to get one remote key I would have insisted on a spare!

The remote key also has the alarm programed onto it so I need to get one done PDQ cos if we loose the one and only key we are stuffed!

So off I go to JCT600 this morning to get one ordered.

Brian, get me the details of the guy who can do keys,it needs to be a remote for the alarm to work!

But it might be worth knowing about this chap should I need another at some point.

So email me when you have seen him and we can have a chat then.

Oh,the new girl has a name she is Muriel MK2!

Normally the "non remote" key can be used to disable the alarm. There is a code you use when opening the door - xx turns left, xx turns right etc... Your manual should give you this code - if not, the dealer should have it.

That,s what I was trying to say Janners Hat, if you have to go to the door to do it-so what, methinks the Duchess just wants to have a run out to look at some more tie-backs .

See that's the great thing about this website Val, we can all learn from your mistakes.

Is it not worth ringing the dealer and telling him spare key required instantly or else you know of a nice little garage that can take care of all your servicing needs . And your friend who's popping in to talk about a new MH is appalled and thinks she might pop down to spinneys to buy one instead. Maybee if they meet you half way on the cost to avoid any misnderstanding you would look on them favouribaly for servicing and reccomendations.

Give it a try Val always works with me new cars.

I am king of complaints, never lose me cool, know exactly what I want and don't let go untill you get it. Once got a £75 train fare recovered because the train was 11 mins late.

He! He! Got another surprise! The key was £116 plus vat!!!

Oh well I just handed over the cash!

I rang the alarm company and they say the non remote key will not disable the alarm! Only a remote key will do the job!

I rang Peugeot UK and they do not want to know and the local Peugeot dealer is such a large local dealership (and the only one that I can identify locally that can accomodate a Motorhome) that they do not care if I go else where!

I thought I was badly done to until my mate told me this morning that he paid £200 for an extra key for his X-Trail 4X4 so I suppose its the going rate!

The dealer will not give a hoot as I took a friend in their last week to look at Motorhomes and they ignored us! And other people I know were told to go to Brownhills if they wanted a bettter deal!

The Motorhome is fantastic and I do hope if anyone is about to purchase one they will ask how many keys come with it!!!

You live and learn,I thought I was a fully paid up member of the wide awake club until I ventured into the world of Motorhomes!

Glad I can teach you a thing or two Panagah I will get some interior photos posted soon!

Val

When we took delivery of our new Peugeot Boxer,in 05, it came with 2 remote keys ! We also had installed at the same time a Cobra alarm system which also locks the cab doors by remote, so we never bother to lock the doors when leaving the van with the ignition remote. I carry our spare remote and alarm remote locked away in the vehicle safe, but know how to get in if I should lose the keys with an impossible to find magnetic key box with a spare caravan door key.

Our alarm is a cobra kiev but we have to press the remote key to lock the doors.

Do you have a seperate fob for locking the doors?

Our previous Motorhome had a Toad alarm and that had a seperate fob to press which locked the door without the ignition remote.

This Motorhome has the alarm programed on the actual ignition remote,I think I prefer the seperate alarm fob which did lock the doors without an ignition key.

Hope you get my drift!

Val- Yes our cobra remote has a seperate fob on the ignition key ring, thats why we never bother with the ignition remote. Our Cobra also lets us alarm the doors at night disengages the internal sensor for moving about in the van.

I know it isn't a motorhome, but the key for the humble 2002 Vauxhall Astra will set you back £150, but if your not too bothered about having a fancy remote that also sets the deadlocks, a standard key will set you back a mere £80.

Audi remote keys are the same price, remember that the remote only unlocks the doors & turns off the alarm, but the key also disables the engine immobiliser so that you can start the vehicle

the reason they won't let you order the key over the phone is that they can't prove that you are the owner, to get an Audi key yo have to turn up at the dealership in person with proof of ownership, photo ID plus proof of address.

if you've got £40k plus worth of motor home, would you seriously want the dealer to give out keys to your motor to any one who asks for one? I know what i prefer, ain in he arse that it is!

I don't think this will work. Any key using a radio frequency has its frequency set by the host country. When i tried to get a replacement key for my Xantia in France the replacement would not work for the reason hat France and the UK use different frequencies.

The problem with good security is that it can create a more serious problem and put your life in danger.

A weeks ago, whilst at the works Xmas party a collegue had left his new BMW at his parents home which was close to work.  Two masked yobbo's burst into the house through the kitchen door and demanded the keys to the BMW and to a Ford Focus parked on the drive whilst his parent played with their 4 year old grand daughter.

Fortunately, my work collegue had the keys in his pocket, but they got away with the Ford.  Two days later the same thing happened two streets away.

This happened in Reddish, Stockport.

What price a key, when your life is at state.

According to the Police, this sort of crime on the increase.
