Took delivery of our first motorhome on 8/12. All seems well so far but have a couple of questions if anyone can help. 

Firstly how often should we steralize the onboard water tank, & whats the best stuff to use?  We've thought about using milton but the chap at our dealer just suggested to wash & shower in it but by no means drink it. We will be using bottled water to drink but wanted to use the onboard water to atleast make tea & coffee aswell otherwise whats the point in carrying a big tank full.

Secondly should we be plugging the van in at home when she's not in use?  This wont be all winter as we intend to use her at weekends & as often as possible (you need to when you spend this kind of cash). She's parked up during the week (need to work see).

There is a special sterilisation powder I remember buying yonks ago at a caravan shop that stated it didnt taint the water, cant remember its name though.Milton can taint it a little bit but if it isnt used too strongly it wont be too bad. babies dont seem to mind??

Thats why with my present and last van we didnt fit water Tanks. We carry ours with us and know that its always fresh.

If you know you are going to be using the van weekly then I wouldnt bother plugging it in.

Do you have the spare weight capacity to travel with your tanks full?  (100kg+ of your load capacity)- we intend to always travel with them empty, and carry bottled drinking water, would no more drink water from a storage tank than I would from a domestic water tank, for me, water needs to be fresh, ( or from a seled container) not of indeterminate age from an unsealed tank.

Milton can corrode stainless sinks and drainers if not thouroughly rinsed off. there was an article about this in one of the motor home mags a couple of years ago.
